Thanks for the great tutorial! I had no idea of how to do this until I watched your video. It took days for me to understand all this technical stuff like DTX, Paint.Net, and the FS9 files but with your instruction and a lot of trial and error I created the airline livery I invisioned for a decade. To see it come to life and fly it in FS9 is almost as exciting as the real thing would be. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You helped make a dream of mine come as close to reality as it ever will.

This is really good work Higgi. I've got a problem. Can't get the paint to re-load back into DXT. Any ideas please. Obviously I'm doing something wrong.

Hey Higgi, First off, thanks for the great and easy to follow video. I really appreciate it, I have been painting a bit, but it seems that with some a/c when I use the "magic wand" it doesn't really select all the parts I want, or it selects a whole lot of things, I cant find the right tolerance to grab what I want to, are there any tips or tricks to making advanced selections on a/c?

VERY Well done. Last night I finished my first aircraft, it looks amazing. But, there's a small white spot on the nose, I looked back in the editor, but it's painted all the way to the edge, is there another place for the tip of the nose? (I was painting the B-737-800)

Budderball31 Thanks, hmm looking at it I think there is a tiny part just above the cockpit on one side, if you look at the 737 'texture.2' you will see it is painted a little grey stop there which I guess is the nose tip.

Why do you need another layer? cant you just paint on the same layer?

This is due to either Windows User Account Control (UAC) or most likely a firewall program, disable your firewall for just a sec to save it or add the folders into the 'Allowed programs/folders' settings of your firewall.

Hi, sorry for late reply. In DXTBmp there is a box to the right that says 'MipMaps'. The 2 checkboxes in there should be UNticked, then it should say 'Box' and then 'None'. Hope it helps.

@jetblueilikeful - you must not have saved it properly. After you have painted it in your paint program reload the image on DXTBmp (paint should display on screen then) and then 'Save' to put it on the aircraft.

@saifm100 - Hi there, you need to have a windows layer at the very top layer. You can find window and door layers in the paintkits.

@djtoro54 - did you make sure that the number is the next in the sequence and that the Texture=..... is the same as the paint folder.

Hmm, are you sure you are selecting multiply and that the layer is above the other one?

@737boeing8 did you save the files as dds? make sure the folder was texture.(whatever you called it)? made sure the .cfg had been modified (variation, title,sim) according to your texture folder? & that the title isnt the same as another plane? it happened to me when i tried it, but i just went over these things & i fixed it (i forgot to edit one of the cfg lines)

Hi higgi. When I edit my texture it looks great in my editor and in DXT, but when I go in to FSX the texture goes all blurry ! what am I doing wrong ?

Hi, in DXTBmp untick "MipMaps --> Include when saving" (on the right had side of DXTBmp).

@TheManOfVideos2 - it works fine for windows 7, the only thing that doesnt work when you run FSX is the Aero features such as 'snap' or the 'peek' functions.

What if the only paint that comes with the aircraft already has a design on it? how do you clear it without wiping out the detail?

Can you do a current...2018 slowed down version of painting something besides CLS....I have a paintkit ( but all the pieces are on one sheet..can they be separated. for a YS11 and I want to do Piedmont ...I bought Corel Paint x9 just for this project but I don't have a clue. I have watch so many videos but nobody does it with a new guy in mind..its like we're all prosand I am trying to watch this vid and catch on. Trying to use paint.net. I am 67 and the learning curve is short..lol. I think your instruction techniques are great but here in The South (USA)..we all talk slooooooooowwwww. Thanks

@djtoro54 - you need to turn UserAccountControl (UAC) down or off for it to give you permission to save, or you can save it to the desktop and then copy/paste it back in.

higgi91 Hey I changed the aircraft registration for one of my aircraft and did so in the virtual cockpit, now inside the cockpit when i look at the wings and everything its all blurry. I also made sure I unchecked mipmaps include when saving. please help thanks

Can you do a video for the FSX rotor blade texture. I am trying to do a 4 blade high visibility scheme ( red and white stripes or yellow and white stripes ). You seem to be a pro at this and I have been so frustrated trying to find a pre-made texture that looks good but I cant find a good one. PLEASE HELP. I like the Cera Sim Bell 412 rotorblade textures but I am willing to try new stuff. Base file is a DDS format. I am trying to make a replacement texture for the rotors of the AS365N2 Dauphin.

@jobed145 - sorry for late reply ive not no router for last week. You have UAC (User Account Control) turned on and that limits loads of things, you can either turn UAC off (control panel) or I think you can save to the desktop and then copy/paste it back into your FSX folder.

For some (Default) planes there are White textures. For any download you'll have to do it yourself, I guess.

@Jtmt88 - if the folder is called Texture.123abc then the aircraft cfg needs to be Texture=123abc, is it exactly the same as the folder? Case sensitive.

Very helpful, thank you. I'm using Gimp. When I save as .bmp it defaults to 24bit. If I do save as 32bit opening that in dxtbmp is a washed out yellow color. Do you know why that is happening...I flatten layers prior..no alpha...thank you

Yes it is exactly the same as add-on aircraft, there will be a texture folder in the default aircraft's folder.

Hi, sorry late reply. You just copy and paste the picture on but for the right hand side you flip the image horizontal and then paste it on so that it shows the right way in FS. Not sure what you mean about the scratch things. If you mean like at the top and bottoms then you need to paint a little bit higher+lower because some paintkits seem to be too small for the actual aircraft and therefore you see the background.

Try saving the paint with different filetypes such as .DDS or .BMP or .DXT // Most aircraft have different filetypes

Why cant I save the aircraft.cfg file after i add the text for the repaint. It comes up with an error message saying: "Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\FA-18\aircraft.cfg file. Make sure the path and file name are correct." I dont know what to do. Any ideas?

@freddielaker2 - just put it on the other side and if it is reversed (back to front) when you look at it then switch it around when you are editing it.

ryaan beg for the CLS textures E-mail [e-mail] and I'll sort it out. For the AirbusX stuff I would imagine there are some blank textures 'somewhere' but Idk where. Yea you can just copy/paste the whitest repaint you find and erase whats left.

ryaan beg Yes you can paint any aircraft at all. The engine or wings etc are exactly the same as the fuselage, just find the textures, paint over them and save.

Unfortunately, nobody in these videos ever covers how to duplicate what you've done on the other side of the aircraft or how to ensure that what you do to one section will line up with the others. Other than that, great video, but that's the issue I'm mainly trying to solve.

Textures are not installed correctly, like not saved in the correct format (DXT or BMP) or didn't use DXTBmp to convert first. Or they are missing.
