Күн бұрын

After #MillennialBlue (See Instagram), the 2005 Dyna FXDC Brock’s Performance project/team building bike, started leaking fuel out of its Sprint Filter - Brock decided to document the repair after KZbin and Internet searches came up soft. Brock has been repairing and tuning carbs since he was 12 years old, so he drops some of that knowledge on today’s mostly EFI crowd, just in case they need help with their own carb issues.
FYI: this repair technique works for almost all carburetors, brands (Keihin, Mikuni, etc…) and types (flat slide, CV, etc…)
Brock also explains the transition of Millennial Blue from “not quite basket case” to a fantastic handling American machine utilizing Brock’s Performance aftermarket and various sportbike parts (Dynazuki?!) as he dives into the repair of the Keihin 45mm CV carb using practical experience as a guide vs. the technique offered in most service manuals.

Observing the limited number of views, likes and comments, your video is another demonstration that the majority does not want to learn anything, they just want to be entertained. However, for those of us actually wanting to expand our knowledge, your videos are most welcome. Thank you for making them and sharing with us!

@64faffi , while I agree with you to an extent (sadly), I can say that the majority of our viewers are more sportbike oriented and many of them love to learn new things (the comments say it all). This particular American V Twin carb video is not really what they can relate to. If you sort our videos by most viewed, over 50% of our top 10 most watched vids are DYI based with several having over 200K views.

I've only just discoverd this video - Thanks for providing the info - There was very little info online about the details of fixing this kind of problem. The details and clear explanations are really helpful and, of course, the principles are universal and transferable to other single and multi carb set ups. Many thanks.

I'm a sport bike guy, I just really enjoy your informational style videos....I only work on a couple carburetors per year. Just rebuilt the twin carburetors on a Honda Shadow 750. The previous owner let it sit up until the gas turned into gel. Quick and easy job, a little after tuning, and now runs like it should. Thank you for what you do for the motorcycle community! I'm about to order every drag racing accessory you offer for my ZX-10R lol. And The woman that answered the phone hooked me up with the military discount! You guys are awesome Thanks again!

I've done this job many times, over the years and carry it out almost exactly the same way as you, but, as you say, there are virtually no videos here, instructing DIY owners on how to do it. Very well done, thank you. 👍

Brock, perfect video!! Exactly what I was looking for. I have an 05 Dyna. That’s puking gas out of the carb when I shut it off. walked back out it was currently leaking. I’m going to check the petcock first, then go to the float. Thank you for your time and effort on this video. !!!!! Not only is fuel flowing from my petcock when the engine is off, I also have fuel coming out of the carburetor. I have both problems. 😮😮 Update: just fix the carburetor. Was exactly as you said it was. adjusted the float tang, Problem solved!!!!

If the float is plastic, shake it and make sure there is no fuel inside it. IF there is, you have a leak somewhere in the float. To find the leak, submerge the float in hot water will cause what air is in the float to come out and you will see the bubbles. Mark the spot where the air comes out. You may need to take a hot needle and make another tiny hole to drain out and let dry the float. Once dry,, use a soldier iron to melt/weld the holes shut. Test in hot water to make sure there are no more leaks. Done.

Thanks for your excellent video. I've been looking everywhere to help with my FXR leading gas. Your video was so simple to understand. Many of the other videos assume they are taking to an experienced mechanic. I thank you once again for making the whole process every clear and thankfully understandable.
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson 2 жыл бұрын
@boreshadave - you just described exactly why we shoot our videos like we do. When I was first learning about bikes, the "experts" would use terms I didn't understand and apply concepts without a thorough explanation. Fast-forward 25 years and I now realize that many of the "experts" were just doing/following advice others had given them and many did (do) not really understand why they do what they do---other than it works, so keep doing it. Not saying that's bad --I'm just saying that truly understanding what's happening allows you to critically think the process through - which helps you grow mechanically and solve even more complex issues the next time they arise. Glad out video helped :) - Brock

The 2 "towers" for the pin that holds the float in place are different A cast-in arrow in the carb body at the base of one of the "towers" points at the rounded pedestal that has the interference fit float pin. The pin is a uni-form width throughout its entire length, so it can be installed starting from either end.The arrow indicates direction of removal. Tap the pin out from INTERFERENCE SIDE pedestal (in the direction of arrow). Install pin from LOOSE SIDE pedestal (opposite arrow) The arrow can be seen at 31:54

Hey brock! I when I hit the throttle gas shoots at the faceplate of my air filter (I have a glass fronted one so you can see into the carb). I watched this video to learn a little more about carbs and to see if i could figure out whats wrong. Is it possible for the jet that shoots fuel into the carb to be facing the wrong way? Because i see alot hit the glass when i rev it.
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson Жыл бұрын
Some fuel blowback is normal. If you see a stream of fuel hitting the glass, your accelerator pump nozzle might have rotated. When you pump the throttle, you should see a stream of fuel shooting in towards the engine as demonstrated in the video.
@farfromsilent23
@farfromsilent23 Жыл бұрын
I checked it. And it is shooting towards the engine. Every once in awhile i get a weird backfiring noise that comes from the carburetor tho so i thought maybe that was related.
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson Жыл бұрын
If it's occasional, welcome to a Harley with a carb! It's not a problem, especially if it primarily happens during startup or when the engine is still cold. If it's more frequent, that could be a sign of a deeper mechanical issue such as improper valve clearance, a spark plug going bad, etc... If that's the case, a leak down and compression test is in order.

The one thing I can say about my Harley's is that there is always something to do and some place to go. I also add in extra time because it's almost impossible to stop and not have someone strike up a conversation about a friend or relative's H-D. It's much different than the sportbike crowds - except for the passion that we all share for two wheels.
