I got a $1400 laptop for $250 because it took 4 minutes to load windows. You'd click on start and it took 5 seconds to bring up the menu. They replaced the hdd in it and still same issue. It ended up being sold as "parts". Turns out the optane was dying. Replaced that with an m.2 nvme and boom! 10 second window load times. Great gamer and only $350 spent total. (technically not free, but $1050 in my pocket is pretty good)

Got an old smashed up iPhone that would have been thrown out. Did a lot of repair work on it, replaced the screen, and voilá - an awesome phone that I can use whenever there's a risk I could break the screen (a cheap replacement screen is 8$, a replacement for my normal phone is 80$)

I have a Samsung 55 inch just like this one in the video to fix- the tech i took it to said that it can't be fixed but he wanted to buy if from me for parts but I declined- thank God I didn't - so I'm going in and try again to fix it for myself again...

I had to come back to this video for a reason.. my Panasonic led tv had same flickering issue they sent a technician from Panasonic but he couldn't repair it and said ill have to go for screen replacement which was costing me price of a new tv...also he told me that this tv has absolutely no value now if I give it in exchange for new tv.. I denied screen replacement and started searching on yt for solution and came across this video. I'm glad to say I've fixed the tv myself just by watching this video..their technician failed to do this simple fix. Thank you for making this video you saved my $$

This is not exactly a fix, this is a workaround; nonetheless you can now watch TV with your set. The LCD panel is still defective. Your advice saved my TV! 13 month old 55" TCL Roku went black on Christmas Eve of all days, 28 days out of warranty. I tried all the resets to no avail and was looking at replacements. Then I followed the isolation procedure outlined and found by disconnecting the right cable half the screen came back. While the clock lines wern't identified with anything like "clk", I isolated lines 2 - 9 on the left side and one by one exposed the connections. When I exposed the connection on pin 4 the full screen came back. Pin 4 was the only one I had to leave tape on and the TV is saved! I can't find any visible issues with the picture or performance. Thanks so much!

TLDR: This video helped me fix a tv I had given up on. Thank you very much for posting this solution. I don't normally comment on videos but I feel like I have to. I had recently purchased a replacement tv to upgrade to a bigger size. The tv I was replacing was fine at the time and I was going to use it in a different room. By the time I had the mount all set for the older tv (about a week) it was no longer working. It had the same issue you were having in this video... black screen with sound and backlight. I had watched a dozen or so videos on repairs and even called customer support with nothing working. So I set aside the tv because I was going to get rid of it (on a free stuff site or trashing it) but I really didnt want to waste the once perfectly good tv. Two or so weeks later I had finally decided the tv needed to go and then this video popped up on my suggested videos. I watched it thinking it would be the same as the others I had seen but the tape was intriguing. In this video you showed me something I hadnt tried (taking the ribbon cables out and reconnecting them) and I figured it was worth trying one more thing before completely giving up on it. Less than an hour later my old tv was back in perfect working order. Thankfully I didnt have to use the tape at all (those connections are incredibly small). The act of taking the ribbon cables out and reconnecting them was all it took to bring it back from the dead. The tv is now mounted and working great. Long story short this video showed me how to fix my tv and keep it from a landfill and for that I am very grateful. Thank you so much for posting this solution.

I was finally able to use your method for a Sony XBR-65C900C. Following your suggestions, I was able to block the ribbon lines causing the issues with tape and now all issues of the 4K TV are resolved. No more black lines on top of the screen and no more out of focus intermittent problems. It is just like new. I did some try and error and ended up blocking around 5 lines on the right side ribbon. When I saw that all symptoms disappeared, I did not try to unblock any more lines. Thanks again, you are a lifesaver.

Thank you 🙏🏾 so much for posting this repair video. This fix worked on my Samsung UN55KS8000FXZA that kept boot cycling. You saved me a lot of $, and I feel so accomplished. I did this initially and it did not work. I knew I had a good power supply, but was not sure about the main board and led panel. I went ahead and installed a new main board and no change. I did not find any burned resistors on the led panel. Went back to scotch taping along the 2 connectors on the main board. Tried a few different sections and then all of a sudden, voila! For anyone out there with a Samsung and who has tried almost everything, try the scotch tape method again on various sections. You may get lucky! It’s worth a shot and costs zero dollars!

That was amazing. I have been fixing LCD TV's since 2010 and never have I ever been led to this repair method. Of course I am doing warranty repair so if the T-comm board is replaced and I still have the same symptoms whatever company just replaces the TV. However I just got for free a nice 70 inch Vizio that has back light and when the menu buttons are pushed there is a faint raise in luminosity on the screen where the menu would normally be but no text or pictures otherwise. The luminosity gain follows when I scroll through the menu blindly so I know the TV works - just going to be and issue with the T-comm board - but thanks to you if I pull out that one cable at a time and find it is not the T-comm board but something in the panel I will not have to take the time to part this beast out - I should be able to work through the clock connections and could be a quick fix almost free - thank you!

So glad I found your page! The material you cover is so interesting and I love the way you go about diagnosing and determining the issues. My dad used to repair TVs back in the 70s and he would include me and ask me to hand him a tool or something and I have good memories of that as a little girl! He would also use a mirror in front of the TVs so he would not have to keep flipping the screen around, which I thought was a really cool idea! Thanks again for the great info!

Great instructional video. Excellent and Intelligent troubleshooting skills. One of the best I've seen on youtube. The prior tech; as most people, have no such wisdom to isolate the problem to the suspect board onto the component level. They swap boards to no avail. then discard the entire system into our landfills creating a toxic disaster. Nobody takes their time to analyze the problem, research online of known defects, recalls and/or engineering flaws let alone a circuit roadmap or schematic for your specific brand and model We are a throwaway society as we would rather replace than repair. Pay for things twice out of convenience rather than DIY. The steps in this video are priceless: cause and effect, isolation, disengage, test one side by elimination, abnormal heat dissipation by thermal imaging, etc....just brilliant. I can relate with the author of repairing things that are practically new. I'm more into the "old school" vintage electronic goods of yesteryear unlike the throwaway electronics we have today. You buy a new TV. It goes out in less than a year. Its absurd as a consumer but great for our economy. Back when America meant quality, those golden years are long gone !! . . ,

Another example of technology mover backwards. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that finds it totally unacceptable to litter landfills with our disposable toys? E-Wastes are buried or incinerated in landfills where their toxins pollute our land, air and water. Most of the time, they are sent to developing countries where workers extract the precious metals from the discarded electronics. Workers on E-Waste sites are paid an average of $1.50 per day. No wonder the Planet is rebelling and hitting us with powerful storms, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, trying to get rid of this cancer called "Humans".

I am happy to inform you that I followed your steps and was able to stick the tape to get the picture back. The issue of fine lines was still there but I did not have your patience to find which was the faulty line to cover it with tape. The way you took out time to showcase the issue and resolution is commendable. I had 3 engineers who told me that the TV's screen was gone and it would be replaced by paying 50% of the TV cost, a small piece of tape did what these engineers could not do.

Thank you for doing this and for a great detailed video on these kinds of issues. My TV (Vizio m502-b1) seems to do similarly to the darkening screen, only the vertical lines appear all in the middle, and by the bottom left corner (where the TV power button is), it seems brighter in that corner. I actually tested the ribbons and it seems like it's one of the ribbons causing the problem, so I tried taping (though I don't have a way to test which prongs nor have an exacto to trim precisely). It helped a bit but still has some glitches (much better now though than it was). Do you think that this is due to a bad T-Con board, or bad pins on the ribbon? I guess my question is, would you replace the T-Con board, the seemingly bad ribbon, or the other chip where the ribbon connects to the panel?

Just fixed my Hitachi 58" 4K TV in the UK using this method - many thanks. About 4 months ago, a single horizontal line appeared across the screen about 5/6 of the way down. TV was about 2 years old. This progressed to the area below the line becoming discoloured and then, finally, a totally black screen but with sound and backlight still operative. I did a bit of research and ordered a new TCON board from China. I did get a picture of sorts which faded over a couple of minutes and then ended up with some strange green interference all over the screen. Went back to original TCON, did the left and right disconnects and narrowed the problem down to the right side. Tried some bits of tape on a few areas of the ribbon cable and ended up with various results, none of them good. Was about to take the TV to the local dump (recycling centre) on my weekly run yesterday but something stopped me. Woke up this morning with the resolve to have one last try. I studied the board carefully with a magnifying glass and narrowed the number of 'likely pins' down from 80 to 15. Being an old git, my levels of dexterity with delicate operations are not great. The smallest slither of tape I could manage covered about 3-4 pins on the cable. However, I definitely got warmer as the morning went on, ending up with a full picture but with 3 vertical discoloured areas on the right hand side. Not feeling confident to slice off further bits of tape with a knife, I used my finger nail to ease the tape back off one pin and, Eureka, full picture restored and no lines anywhere. Who would have thought it? Not sure how long it will last until the next problem occurs but it's working well right now. This does require patience so if you think you are beginning to get frustrated with it, walk away and come back later or another day. Thanks again for your excellent video.

The only defect I can see is slight contrast of colour (color) between left and right sides of screen - red being a little less intense - you have to look very hard to notice it and I can live with that no problem.

Thank you very much for sharing your in knowledge. I used this to “repair” a 60” Sharp TV. I had already replaced the power board and thought it was the light strips. I prices replacement by a pro at $350, so I went to KZbin to see how to it myself. There I found your video. Long story short, there was no jumper map so I just went to town. Saw varying results. After 4 hours, I was wrapping up for the night and took all the tape off. Somehow, everything works perfectly. No tape! Went from a dead screen with sound to tv that seems brand new. Any idea why or how that could be? Thank you again.

Thanks! No, I don’t know why. It may be heat related or pressure on a cable or a connection issue.

Corrosion on a loose connection. Sometimes with lots of electronics you can reconnect plug and it scrapes off the corrosion for a fresh new copper connection.

Vertical lines usually indicate a data problem. If you have already changed the tcon board, then that your issue is most likely inside of the LCD panel, or on the LCD driver board. Depending on what kind of vertical lines you’re talking about, it could also be a tab bond failure.

First, I'm pleased to say that I used the tape technique to repair our $$$ Samsung QLED 75" 4K TV that was barely over a year old. The picture has been great for over a year! Now I have a problem with an LG 55UF6450. The TV worked great until about a month ago. The screen would flicker, then get "static" (fuzzy), then fix itself...temporarily. Now the screen is almost always fuzzy white static. Occasionally, the picture will show and play for a few seconds, then the screen will freeze or go back to static. It doesn't matter the source--live air TV, HDMI, component--all the same result. HOWEVER, when I bring up the TV's Smart Menu, or other still picture, it seems fine. It's only when there is motion that it croaks. Also, the sound works perfectly. I tried the tape technique on the LG but no success. Sadly, I'm thinking I'll have to replace the T-CON board. ANY OTHER THOUGHTS??
@FrugalRepair
@FrugalRepair Жыл бұрын
Congrats on that repair on the QLED! If there is a good picture (normal) with the menu, etc then I would suspect an issue on the main board. If it's only when there is a moving picture, then you might be right, the tcon may be the issue (assuming you did the isolation technique like in the video and both halves showed the same issue).

This is the best video that I've watched discussing this technique. THIS WORKED FOR ME TONIGHT!!! (8-12-24) Visio V555-G1, pin 56 on the left (front view, on right rear) ribbon connector. They are so small though that I couldn't make a piece of tape that small once I narrowed it down to that pin so I have actually have 54-56 taped off. I may go back in later and just cut the line in the ribbon. Too bad there's not a test box with lots of switches for each line. The factory proably has one. Thank you again for a great video.

Great repair tip and details. My TCL 55inch picture works great on either side separately, never full, when the other ribbon cable is disconnected. Right side works with left side ribbon out and vice versa, but when both ribbons are in the screen is solid grey with full backlights working and no lines, so not sure tape fix will help. Haven't seen that covered before.

Great video!! I have a Samsung QN75Q70TAFXZA with dark screen that's on/off every 10 seconds so I replaced the LED backlight strips thinking that was my issue still doing the same thing. I came across your video and tried the scotch tape at the ribbon cable connection after taping off one half of the pins, I was able to get white screen with no on/off every 10 seconds. I just have one ribbon cable from the main board down to multiple thin boards (3 of them which are all tied together). I'm not sure which clock pins to tape or not tape. I can't seem to find a diagram of the ribbon cable pin-out. I ordered some magnified glasses to look at the board closer to see and trace the clock pins hopefully I'll be able to figure it out. In the mean time any suggestions?
