Hello all, some insulation companies repair the holes they create and apply the stucco to match the surrounding finish.
Some insulation companies do their job and later tell you on your own after they pump the insulation into your walls.
Always ask if they are going to plug their holes?
Good insulation companies at least create the hole to pump in the insulation, then use a polyurethane adhesive sealant caulking to keep the corks in place.
Usually, they don’t apply the stucco as that’s another task for professionals who do stucco matching for a living.
As a rule, we will come in, apply a bonding agent over the corked-in holes, then apply a small amount of stucco and match the existing finishes.
Of course, you must paint to cover all the new stucco holes; oh, the joys of new insulation.

Howdy Susan, the methods I use to show folks are techniques I have learned in my last 30 plus years in the field. Whatever method I choose for a certain repair I must guarantee to my clients for the long run. I see a pattern that tells me the EIFS was not installed correctly to start with. Those holes a screws with cap washers used to hold the 1" thick expanded polystyrene boards (Not EIFS Grade), no detail mesh on ends, no detail mesh in the field, just troweled the finish on an un-finished wall. This is like changing oil and leaving the drain plug loose. It's a matter of time to failure!

Kirk, my contractor filled the holes with "something" that are at the same level of the stucco and painted over it. Now the painted surface expands and cracks so the wall has some small bumps and cracks. What are the proper procedure to restore the surface?

I'm having this same issue about drilling a hole for a mini split line that requires a 2.5 hole cut all the way through how would u recommend to seam that area so the line set can run through bit not causing a leak around the hole because of the pierced membrane

I have 2 golf size holes, it's empty no "net" wire thing it's a hole. can't just apply patch can I? also if I don't fix it will it get worse from rain/sun etc?

Okay then dude, can your balls fit into the holes? kidding brother, you walked into that. Not sure what you have but if they are just empty holes with no sheathing and just studs you can spray expanding foam in them when the foam expands past the outer stucco you can shave them flush then stucco over this foam, or you can break back properly from stud to stud than lath and plaster as usual. i just drilled over 100 hole in my stucco for insulation.. is it a good idea to use the stucco cut out ?? its about 1/2 to 1inch thick.. or what would you recommend?

When they say I've been in the union for 30 years, my response is usually, of those 30 years, how many days have you actually worked? Wouldn't it be better to drill the holes from the inside of the house? Drilling hundreds of holes on the outside of the house just seems like a bad idea. Unless you have somebody like you that knows what they're doing, it looks like you could have a lot of leaks. If they did it from the inside, then you wouldn't have to worry about leaks.

I'm not an expert, but am about to have insulation blown in. Interior holes can apparently be cut with a hole saw and re-used after hole is backed up with foam, etc. Some of the problems on interior method are that all furniture must be moved away from exterior walls, and everything covered because of dust. I may test my 1945 pre-drywall plasterboard for asbestos also. I will probably opt for interior, not enough confidence in blending stucco properly. My stucco patching skills are not great, but thanks to Kirk and company I did a decent job patching after window installation. These guys are great, love these videos!
