Great work on the repair! I have a Canon S100 with the lens stuck out and the "lens error" message on startup. I tried cleaning the contacts for the lens ribbon cable, which is a common fix for the S100, but it didn't work. I will try what you did in this video, maybe my camera also has some dirt stuck in the lens.

Thanks! Did you find it like this with a stuck lens or did it happen while you were using it? Often when the battery dies or for some other reason the camera stops having power, people try to push the lens back by pushing it. With the lens extended, the camera doesn't fit in the case, it doesn't fit in the pocket, it doesn't fit in the small handbag, and people are creative in pushing it inside. And that's how many camera lenses get broken :D My experience in repairing the lenses has not been very successful, there are various very fragile sensors inside that monitor to what position the lens is open, the stabilization is also a very gentle system. I've made a few mistakes and I don't want to open a lens again. Also there is a certain alignment of the parts, it is possible that sometimes this is also a problem if the alignment or the sensors that monitor the alignment are broken. I once tried to remove such a lens from a pocket camera and make a bayonet for mounting dslr lenses, a complete failure :D . As the sensors do not send information to the camera, it becomes unusable, lens error. I don't know if CHDK can bypass these initial tests the camera does so it doesn't show a lens error. You can try to bypass this message and try zooming out and zooming in to move the lens.

@@Electronics_Collection It was a 5 euro flea market find and I used it for a few months before the lens got stuck. It just got stuck when using it so there shouldn't be any additional damage. CHDK sounds like a good idea, I will try with that first!

Yes, I had a short one too with a very good grip on the small screws, but I lost it somewhere. Thanks :)

Hey, do you do repair services? I'm looking for solutions and I found yours but I'm afraid to do the repair myself because it's a very precious camera.

I'm not a professional and I don't have the confidence to fix other people's things. Also I'm from Bulgaria and I guess just the shipping will cost more than buying a new camera or taking it to a local repair shop.
