I use Shashco mortar repair. It has a sandy texture and blends in perfectly with mortar. It comes in gray or sandstone. I wish it came in red so I could use on the brick itself.

Its not mortar in a tube. Its acrylic. Not much different than the silicone that was replaced. Its more work but you can take a grinder and wire brush to the decaying stuff and just use a point to shove fresh mortar in the crack. 1/2 to 3/4" will hold fine.

Next time you try it. Take a piece of your old mortar with you to your local hardware store or wherever you buy your mortar and they can tell you how to match it up with your existing mortar. Take it home chisel out your old mortar 1/4 inch or so don't take it all out. Then re apply your new mortar in the cracks. Spray a bit of water in the cracks as well before applying the mortar it will match and look alot better. Believe me I've used the stuff in the tube and within a couple years you'll be doing it all over.

Maybe a stain or get a water sealer that gives the wet look appearance to darken the morter. Just thinking of something Im going to play with beforeI do thison the house. Put a little morter repair in a cardboard box, let it dry then test the color or stain.

I’d think that cracked brick is more of an indication of some structural problems.
@clownchaostime30242 жыл бұрын
It's not though. I thought the same thing a few years ago when my wall cracked. Several people have told me (3 are in the house building field) that these types of cracks are from house settling and sometimes is caused from extreme heat. I live in Texas and it gets pretty damn hot down here.

@@JorgeGonzalez-nc3bu true... I was just commenting on here in Texas and the majority of these are structural/foundation issues...I should have worded that different.. Down here on Texas in the 70"s and early 80's the home builders used hard red clay for the ground the foundation would stand on, cause it was so hard and solid. But, years later, they found out it hardened to hard and cracked foundation and brick. Now they use a mixture of clay and sandy loam.

Brick mason here... You can't prevent water from getting through your bricks. Bricks are not water proof. The reason you have water in your house is because the window sill is cracked. You didn't have to ruin the whole wall just caulk the window sill. This is the kind of shit that gets charged double when I come out to fix it. Because I have to clean all of that ugly caulk out of the wall before I do my repair. Just watching this video makes me mad..
