I love these older washers and dryers. I’ve had mine for 23 years now. There have been a few repairs (like this one) over that time but they still wash and dry clothes. Guarantee you won’t find a newer set running that long. Good video!
@Know-How-Now2 жыл бұрын
My friend got a new washer and dryer a couple of years ago. The guy delivering them told her, "These won't last as long as those did." A couple of years ago, I gave the dryer some TLC. I replaced the felt seal (video on the channel for that) and a few other small things. I cleaned out the lint chute and vacuumed the fuzz off of the motor. Cleaning off the motor every once in a while is a good idea. If it gets covered with lint it will run hot... not good. I am going to repair them as long as I can. If we really cared about being "green" we would demand that products are made to be easily repaired and not planned to fail.

Thank you SO SO much! For a couple of months now, I kept thinking that I need to buy a new washer because it wasn't agitating well. I was resigned to the idea that I would be spending at least $500-$600. 3 days ago I decided to search for possible solutions as to why it wasn't agitating and came across your video. I followed you step by step and found the dog agits were worn down. I ordered a set from Amazon and they arrived today. I already had the unit disassembled and it took a whopping 2 minutes and 57 seconds to put in the new ones and put it all together and now, I have a washer that works great! Again, many thanks!

This is the exact same agitator assembly that my Kenmore washer has, so the video was especially easy to follow. I had to use some channel lock pliers to get that softener lock ring to snap up, and the cam/agitator reassembly was confusing on first attempt. I wish I had taken a picture once the dust cover was removed, but I figured it out on the second attempt. Thank you so much! My agitator is working again and I probably only spent 10 minutes on the repair.

You are welcome. If you have the companion dryer, there are a few repair videos for that on the channel. There is also a video on how to replace the water inlet valve. If the washer starts to fill slowly, that is likely the problem. Have a great day.

As others have said, this was an excellent video which enabled us to quickly fix the agitator and have clean clothes. Thank you! One of my parents' friend's agitator stopped working, and my mom told him just to go buy a new washing machine because his is so old. That broke my heart! I learned a long time ago that you need to hang onto those good old washers for dear life because the fancy new machines are pretty much disposable as well as expensive. So, for ≈ $18 & with the help of your video, I bought a new agitator assembly and clutch for the motor (just in case), and I have him back in business. I bagged & labelled the extra parts with instructions and attached them to the back of the machine so he will have them handy if he needs them. Buying the extra parts is still way less expensive than a new washing machine! Bonus: before I could even get back home, he had already called my mom to tell her how smart I am. If he only knew my little secret...! 😂😂😂 Thanks again for sharing your knowledge so that I could help save the day for a family friend. ✌🏻💜🛼

just used this video today! I have the same washer. The old stuff lasts! Kind of breezed through the video and then came back up to actually pay attention. lol. The 2 pieces were stuck together and I didn't want to break anything. So, i get to the part where she says just put it on the floor and stand on it and pull. I laughed and went back downstairs and had it apart in 5 seconds. Ran down to the appliance store and $4 later, problem solved. Also, took the parts outside and cleaned them up really well with a degreaser while they were apart. All pieces back to looking like new and 5 minutes later, we had a perfectly functioning machine again! Thank you for a perfect video presentation. Everything you could need to get it done, fixed and back to normal!

@Know-How-Now Agreed! I see refrigerators from the 70's still going! Yet these brand new Samsungs and LG's have mother boards that can launch a rocket into space🤣 They leak, freeze up, boards fry, etc. Some within the first month's. Our tech gets better every day but we can't build a simple air conditioner for food anymore! The video was very helpful indeed. Amongst a sea of useless nonsense on the web, this was like turn by turn directions on a GPS to get there and get it done. Great job on the video. Years later, it's still making an impact😁
@Know-How-Now Жыл бұрын
I think the new appliances are deliberately made to have a short life. IMHO, those circuit boards are a big part of the problem. It's likely too expensive for an after market board to be made by someone other than the manufacturer. When they fail, the price of the replacement board plus the labor the replace it (many people can't do their own repair) makes a new appliance the best option. Sad. A neighbor just bought a new stove. It failed after a few uses. It sat unusable for two months, during 3-4 service calls and then a wait for new parts. They told her to buy a hot plate.

Know How Now Dryer blower wheel, washer motor shaft coupling (I think that was the part), a loose connection in the dryer, and now this, this was by far the easiest. I feel the same way, hang on to the older repairable (not designed to fail & be thrown away) appliances as long as you can. I don't mention it in the video, but if you have a lock ring, you should reinstall the lock ring.

Mine does not have agitators on the bottom is it supposed to? Great video though

Look for the model number on the washer. Don't for get to check under the lid. After you have the model number go to a online parts seller and find a parts diagram for your washer to verify.

Hello my assembly is exactly like yours including the softner everything. Not sure if you will respond after many years. i am having trouble seperating the two parts of the agitator where you step on the bottom and pull up. But in your video you started a sentence" the two pieces of this agitator were stuck together" like mine (my machine might be 50 year old) then you said "you may be able to just pull the top piece off yours". afaid to pull up any harder. You had not finished your thought if you were not able to seperate the two pieces or how you seperated the two pieces once you determined they were "stuck". any ideas would be helpful. too bad I can't get the cam out first. The two piceces of the agitator do have play. Probably just really dirty. Maybe spray some WD 40 (doesn't eat plastic and may clean up some of the funk). I have just gotton really good over the years of knowing how much pressure until it snaps, but you might just say "pull harder" Actually looking at the two pieces side by side I may be able to slide 4 pieces of somthing realy thin to push in the 4 locking tabs of the lower part of the adgitator to help it realese the upper part. Thank you so much. I liked and subscribed

I had to give it a good yank to get it apart. I understand what you mean about too much force is going to break it. Maybe some WD40 and then bang on it a bit with a rubber mallet? If it doesn't come loose, let it sit overnight and try again. I once worked a seat post loose that was stuck in a bicycle frame using PB Blaster and a rubber mallet. It took 3-4 days of shooting Blaster in there, banging on the seat, then try again when I was walking past. It eventually came loose. I suppose you could buy a new agitator, but that might be kind of expensive. Thanks for subscribing. Let us know how it turns out.

@@Know-How-Now OK I got it. I flipped the upper and lower adgitator upside down on the washer on newspaper and soaked it with WD-40 and let it sit for IDK... weeks, then this morning gave it three tuggs and voila it came apart, no problem. Cleaned everything with soap and water, everything is pristine for a 50 + year old washer, shiny new looking, not brittle, nothing broke off. I bought two more sets of OEM genuine Whirlpool dogs for spares off EBAY. Cheap like $6 for the first set and $10 for the next two free shipping. That thing I tought was a plastic Nut on the lower adgitator was part of the mold. I just need to clean the old grease out of the metal and plastic spline and 7/16" bolt then re-apply. Rubber on the 7/16" bolt perfect. Just need to make sure I Dont over tighten. Gasket on dust cover perfect. if you care, here is the link to the exploded. at sears parts direct www.searspartsdirect.com/model/4126c1e5iw-000582/kenmore-11082984120-washer-parts Wow thank you so much for your video. I thought I might have to spend like $90 for a new adgitator ( with shipping) Take care.............Mark

Thanks for the detailed information, Mark. I'm sure it will be helpful for anyone else having the same problem. Patience and persistence did the trick. I am hanging onto my old appliances as long as possible. The new ones don't last. I just talked to a neighbor who has been through 5 dishwashers in about 20 years. My Kitchenaide from 1989 is still running like a champ. I did have to replace a rubber section of waterline that connected to the inlet. Whoever installed it allowed the hose to rest against another part and a hole was caused by vibration. It's a shame that the new junk/not repairable appliances are going to landfills.

I'm wondering, I've changed the dog agitators, but same issue as your video remains. It spins fine as it normally would. Any suggestions? Thank you much.👍

Sorry for the delay in replying, you comment almost got past me. I have a few thoughts. Are you sure you put the new dog agits in place the correct way? You may be able to find a parts diagram at one of the on line part suppliers for your model to verify the correct positioning. The other thought is did you get the correct replacement parts? Maybe wrong parts were sent to you or the correct part was misidentified for your machine.

Had the same problem, look for a lock ring which is flat and on top of the dogs this has to be lifted and the slots cleaned to place the dogs in the slot,, Had mine apart a couple of times to.LOL

Hello, I had already changed that part which one of the dogs were broken so that was one of the problems but it’s still not agitating. What else can be wrong?
@Know-How-Now Жыл бұрын
There is some gearing below the agitator. Maybe the problem might be there. Get a parts diagram for the washer, you'll be able to get an idea of what is below.

Thank you so much I have not got the dogs yet but I took mine apart and all of mine were gone. And of course I have the washing machine that you're talkin about that it does not have bolt at the top and mine has a ring around it where it looks like the dogs fit on to one ring. I hope this is what's wrong I can put the washing machine on rinse or spin and it will drain out the water. I'm so hoping this is what is wrong. If so you just made my day so close to Christmas. Really cannot afford a new washing machine right now now where can I find the parts? I'm sure I will probably have to order them off of Amazon or somewhere if anyone has any suggestions on where to get the dogs at please let me know thank you. And to the one who made this video you rock and I know I probably did not spill those little things right but IDC

If they are gone, for sure you have one problem. If possible buy OEM parts (parts from Wirlpool). Find the ID tag on the washer, mine is inside the lid. Do an internet search for you washer make & model number. You will find sellers who will show a parts diagram. Get the part number for the correct dog agits. If it's the same as mine, here is a reputable seller on eBay- see below. Merry Christmas. www.ebay.com/itm/113026173717?hash=item1a50e28b15:g:57wAAOSwjWJgNAxs

@Know-How-Now7 ай бұрын
Find the plate on the washer with the model number. Look for it under the lid. There are many appliance parts sellers. Find one of their websites, do a search with your model number. Get the part number. I always try to get OEM parts. You might find the part on eBay.

I didn’t see this in the comments. I installed the dogs and now the agitator is moving left and right, but it doesn’t continue to spin around. What did I do wrong? Or is something else wrong with my washer?
@Know-How-Now6 жыл бұрын
Grasp the top of the agitator and turn it clockwise, only the top half of the agitator should spin. Then try turning the agitator counter clockwise, both the top & bottom pieces of the agitator should turn at the same time (as one piece).... that means the "dogs" are catching and working properly. If it's not working like this, then perhaps you have the wrong "dogs" or they are not properly installed.
@jadedphoenixprojects6 жыл бұрын
So I checked it out. And it looks as though I may have tightened the bolt too tight. I rechecked the dogs were installed properly and catching then when I put the bolt back it wasn’t working quite right any more. Loosened the bolt and it allowed the top part to spin at each turn then the dogs would catch.

Thanks for the video. Anyone knows when to find the ear dogs for a Kenmore model 110.4025090. I cannot find part manuals online. WM more than 10 years old.
@Know-How-Now2 жыл бұрын
Double check that number. Whirlpool makes Kenmore. Whirlpool's site says the number is incomplete. www.whirlpoolparts.com/Shop-For-Parts/w1-x31313034303235303930/1104025090-Parts If it's correct, try calling one of the on line parts stores, they may be able to help.
