Love it! You do great work. Thanks for repairing my cluster when I sent it to you. Two thumbs up! 👍👍I do all kinds of welding and fixing things but when it comes to this stuff I stop there. My cluster was repaired twice before by other people come to find out digging through the pile of stuff done to my truck by the previous owner. Works like new now.

That's the least amount of conformal coating/epoxy I've ever seen on one of those chips. Usually they are coated pretty good with that super tough greenish blue gunk.

My 2011 GMC Seira cluster will not work at all, no gauges and no driver information or gear selector, all the videos I've watched had something burnt out but mine looks fine, only thing that lights up is the engine light. I obviously need your help?

Hi! I have a 2007 Chevy Avalanche that is having this same issue! No display, but all the gages are working. I had smelled what to me smelled like melting wire right before it quit working. the gauges if they work alone they do not turn on the light. There are two of the Baterry. Y. oil

Make sure the solder is all the way off or melted, otherwise the tracing could come off while taking the chip off.

I believe the express chassis has a common problem with the cluster ground.

Hello. You have very nice videos, they are very informative. I was wondering how i could do a gauge sweep test on a gm insturment cluster without the vehicle. I have a Snap On scanner that i can sweep guages from the vehicle. I saw you do it with a differnet scanner and I was wondering how to wire it up. Do you have to have a computer out of car to comuunicate or can I hook scanner directly to instrument cluster. I have all the connector pigtails for obd and instrument cluster. Thanks for any help. Also you should make a video on how to calibrate guages electronically

yeah just power the cluster and hook up the data wire from the scan tool to the cluster. My old tech2 let's me communicate.

Tools and parts used have be added to the description. I just use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning.

Thank you, That list takes time and I appreciate it. People are fussy about their flux which is why i asked. I have had boards that had an epoxy so thick i used a wire brush dremel to clear it. I have seen guys just melt through it with their iron and suck in the fumes. I doubt they contain the essential vitamins to make you healthy.

The epoxy used on this board wasn't too bad, just rubs and scraps off for the most part. A little was still holding the chip down after the solder melted. It was time to make a list, your not the first or last person to ask about the tools, supplies and parts used so I finally got around to making it.

I recommend replacing the mosfet with a new one, but in your case resoldering it will probably get it going again.

It's possible the driver chip is damaged. I've run into times it will pull too much current.

Might not be straight forward. If the additional stepper motors are installed in the base model cluster, it could be missing additional hardware (driver chips) and software. I know for sure it's going to be missing the backlight and needle LED's. If you run the replacement cluster, besides the odometer being off, you could run into compatibility problems if its not a direct match for braking and suspension systems. I just don't know for sure, haven't tried.

Your having a power issue, not display issue. You might want to start with basic trouble shooting to make sure you don't have a blown fuse or wiring issue.

It's SMD, you might want a hot air station. 3528 package size can work and is easy to find.

Not sure but I would start by checking your batter voltage with the engine running and make sure it's 13.8 to 14.

It is charging properly. The light will stay illuminated dim even with key removed.
