Repairing a damaged camshaft lobe with a welder and old atlas lathe

Camshaft is from a 4jj Isuzu engine. The lobe was damaged by a rocker arm. I welded the lobe back on with Brutus welding rod.

@@battleaxefabandmachine If it works, it works ! A camshaft for my 15 Dodge Charger would be around $1,600 from the dealership. It has those dual overhead cams. If that ever happens, I know where to start

Thank you so much for the information. I have a 1920 Universal Motors four cylinder engine with a bad cam lobe. The cam shaft is irreplaceable. I've lost irreplaceable parts sending them off for professional repair, not to mention the cost. This gives me a place to start on repairing it myself. Thank you again.

I get a lot of DIY stuff and perfection isn’t always strived for and most times you can prolly get away with it, but the entire purpose of grinding a cam with a stone is to provide a flat surface that can be applied to the cam lobe so your wear pattern will function properly. You have that machine setup to where the stone looks crooked that camshaft is going to cause another engine failure bc this is one area you really are not suppose to say “I know it ain’t perfect” well I know it ain’t gonna run if your grinding a taper into your lobe. Your asking for a lifter to have an early life.

I ran it on high idle for a few hours and then pulled the valve cover to check everything. Customer picked it up day before Thanksgiving and drove 300 miles to St Louis. So far so good. I have asked twice to make sure it was still running good.

No I didn't because it was a billet cam. It's called Brutus rod
