When I unloaded the car upon arrival, I did the scream again - just out of habit. One of my friends immediately asked me if I watch Vehcor videos too 😂

I've never worked on a Subaru ever, and they valve body on top and easily accessible... the most wonderful thing I've ever seen. These engineers deserve a round of applause. 🎉 😂😂 True mechanics know what I'm talking about. If you don't believe me, then ask those who now have to lift the body of a pickup truck to get things done.
@snoopdogie1874 ай бұрын
Why does the valve body even need to be inside the transmission case. The older Chrysler transmissions had it mounted to the case. A lot less work than this one was, which I know this is better than others also.
@RS-lt2ue4 ай бұрын
@@snoopdogie187 With respect, I'm intrigued by your question. I've worked on transmissions for a good portion of my life and the majority of them are under and inside the transmission. Meaning, you will have to drain the oil out. Once drained, then deal with oil dripping in yourself to get the valve body out. Now, the only two I've worked on with valve body on the side is the 1957 Chevy powerglide and the 2014 VW Dual clutch, and still requires to drain the oil out. All others, 350, 400, 7004R, 200R4, NAG1, 8HP70, to name a few, they all have the valve body underneath the transmission
@snoopdogie1874 ай бұрын
@@RS-lt2ue I should be more clear, its a shift solenoid. I've dealt with it on an A604 transmission from Chrysler. If I remember correctly, besides the speed sensors, it was the only electronic piece on the transmission. No need to drain the fluid, you will just lose some when you remove the solenoid pack, but not a lot, only what it contains. The worst thing is keeping dirt out of the transmission when you replace this. Fairly common part on a lot of 90s and 2000s Chryslers. I'm not sure when they stopped this method.

I never thought I'd see the day when you were taking on a repair I have already done instead of me watching your videos before I attempted a repair! This is a common issue on Subaru CVT's that don't get the CVT replaced often enough (like every 60k). I usually buy new parts from Subaru, but the remans can be a good value as well. Quick tip on the cover dowels, spray a little PB Blaster on the top of them before you remove all the cover bolts, then by the time you get the bolts out, the dowels have lost their death grip. Comes off like butter Also, the B1650 code is also common, its the occupant sensor in the passenger front seat. Usually it's something easy like a loose/dirty/corroded connector under the seat, not so often but possible...a bad occupant sensor.

Based on my experience with my local Subaru dealer and what they charge for routine services, you likely saved about a $1,500 labor bill. But, they're no more guilty than other car dealers. I found an independent Subaru repair shop locally, several years ago, and that is where I took my Subaru for repairs until someone totaled it for me in an accident. It was a good car, and I have no complaints. I just had to go car shopping after settling with the insurance company.

I started on subaru vehicles only starting in1991. At the time, most were the old tin lizzy E82 boxer engine models and so really easy to work on. Turbo models had vacuum hoses till the cows came home ..... just a great rig for here in Anchorage Alaska. Our power and telephone companies used them for many many projects so only real problem was rust. Living on the ocean, (Cook Inlet) is death for those really efficient vehicles.... my favorite was the Bratt. I am finally getting to a decent comment, it looks like they are still fairly easy to work on and still respected as a good automobile. I am crippled and seventy five with no business on any road so just enjoy your videos

Better call Saul-enoid! I applaud your patience with that trans cover. I would not been able to calmly work at it with care like that, and would have gone cave-man on it. I believe the front passenger seat code was it looking for weight on the seat and not finding it. My 2004 QX56 did the same thing. There was a connector on the seat wiring harness that wasn't fully plugged in, and after reseating the connector, I had to sit on the seat so that it can register weight on it. Then the code can be cleared. After that a light on the cluster lit up showing that the passenger seat airbag is disabled when no one is sitting on it because it knows nothing is in that seat, but its just a notification, no code comes up from it.

Please read this as if I wrote it to take the piss out of the trolls... 22:33 OMG, OMG Scott, I had to look away, the manor in which you tightened those case bolts was so slapdash I wouldn't be surprised if your permanently warped that case and destroyed the gasket. Torque wrench be damned, you might as well just cranked the bolts down randomly with an impact gun given you didn't bother to evenly torque the case down by alternating in a star pattern to guarantee the even distribution of force on the case. Good god man, this vehicle is totalled given the sloppiness of your work. I'd be surprised if the owner get more than five miles before the transmission explodes....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Bloody trolls, they probably never wrangled a spanner in anger in their sad, pathetic lives. The car drove fine until transmission codes popped up (solenoid stuck open closed/open) ETC. I changed out the fluid again still the same issue. Long story short my Ebay Special filter pan ($34.00) was to blame. The filter had disintegrated while the fluid was being pumped through the trans, clogging the solenoids. Such a headache. The problem was remedied by tearing down the solenoid block and cleaning it, and reinstalling an OEM filter/pan. I could only imagine the inconvenience this may inflict on the first time DIYer. I do not blame Ebay but the seller. Errr....
