Dean, I am an electrician in Pakistan. I had makita 9 inch with some fault in my store. With the help of your videos I diagnosed its fault (which was gear and bearing issue) and solved it. Spending my time on hours long video worth it. BTW makita 9 inch grinder is beast, I believe it still gonna give me more 3-5 years at work.

They are terrifying when you aren't used to them. When I was a young lad back in 1988, I was using one to clean out pointing on stonework all day. Towards the end of the day my arm was exhausted from holding up so much torque at upper chest height. As I let go of the trigger I let it swing down by my side - there was no braking. I still have the scar on my thigh:-)

The old 9” grinder it’s like playing with a loaded gun no guard you know it’s going to take a finger but you’re not sure which one
@johnbullard59732 ай бұрын
These old tools are built to last, but the big motors do scare me. I have a similar vintage old Hitachi 9” circular saw, that scares the hell out of me. There’s no safety button , so starts when you pick it up by the handle / trigger, and the kick on start up !! But with a decent blade it makes short work off cutting through railway sleepers.
@ashleybignell23662 ай бұрын
I'd imagine there's been a few lost fingers on those tools without guards. I do'nt think i'd be too comfortable using one. Nice fix as usual

They tend to bite other parts on people over fingers. Typically legs and feet when they hang up and whip out your hands. With no blade brake on em they spin for too long after let off the trigger. Thats what makes em dangerous..
@markmawson12 ай бұрын
Cleaning out the head of that grinder was like an archeological dig 😂, to get all that grease out into the bin just warm the housing up with the blow torch and it will melt the grease that's holding it to the housing and it should slide out well the majority of it anyway.

yes, but its more satifing to dig it out

@zaxmaxlax2 ай бұрын
Probably 230. If you have a 110 transformer you can test it first and see if it runs at the correct speed, if its slow its 230v, if you dont have a transformer it wouldnt matter if it was 110 anyways, may as well just test it directly on 230, if works, you got a free grinder.

You just gotta be careful and grip it tight. And make sure the disc is on tight and not cracked. And not to use the wrong size disc on it.. these tend to hurt people with or without a guard from people not gripping it tight the whole time and thinking it wont grab but they will and do. And aint very many men who can hold em when they do.. worked with a guy who used one without a deadmans switch and had a flip switch that i always told him is gonna screw him one day and one day i hear a bang and buncha noise and the thing is eating up the tile floor but shut itself off after it cut its own cord. Just like circular saws theyre a dangerous tool, u just gotta respect em and know their power..

@Z-Ack2 ай бұрын
Why wouldnt you just sand down the armature end to slide it in that bearing rather than heat the bearing with plastic guides and shields?? Just a wee bit of sanding to get the rust and crap off and wouldnt make it loose but just enough for it.. and the gear has a key so its not gonna spin off for any reason. I just dont see heating it like that doing any more good than harm it would do to the fresh bearing.
