No, no no! Actually, these are VERY EASY! All of the boards are life sized. It looks like they are magnified, but they are about 10 meters by 10. The probes and soldering irons are about two meters long, and on broomsticks. That's the reason you never see him in frame, if you did, you might think it was magnified and that he is very wee.

The copper foil trick i should have known as i repaired some missing pads on a DRAM stick. I hammered some copper wires flat for that and fixing them in place was tricky. As always, nice job of explaining (and one more tool in the arsenal) 👍

Lovely music as well! 2 quick quesitons: 1) would an appropriately sized jumper wire rather than trace from donor boards work well? 2) what are your thoughts on removing enamel from copper wire using soldering iron and a small blob of solder, instead of scraping?

Hi mate! - I am sorry if you have answered this question in your other videos, but I was wondering if you could please share what type of microscope/camera setup you have for recording your videos? (in particular, do you use a microscope/mag lamp or camera when you are working on boards? I notice that mostly, you are focusing in on an angle rather than overhead - If you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated! (Also, I notice your boards are very stable - do you use a bracket to hold them in place when working on them?) thanks and your videos have been a huge help to me! Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated . There isn't any particular benefit to how I showed the last method except it gives a stronger repair in the middle section as if left with just the tape it's not going to be as strong . Also the Kapton tape sits better on a level stretch of trace instead of going up and down if just both ends were soldered . All these methods I've shown here have a variety of mix and match , I e the last method could have been solder masked . I always tell people choose the option you like or create a new option , that's what's great. Thank you again for your time , take care 👍

Great video! So what's the idea behind the solder mask? Will the joint degrade without that protection? If you used something like hot glue would it damage the joint after a period?

The joint will be fine without masking over it but it will give better long term protection from potential shorting out or maybe lifting away from the PCB . Masking is strong if cured correctly ( hot air will help , as I spoke about ) and will give a much stronger bonding to keep it all in place . Thanks again , take care 👍

Half my comment disappeared great video always learn something dispite years of practice. I sometimes use nail varnish to cover joints. Problem is they are garish colours, if you are not bothered see if the wife has a spare.

I've got transparent nail varnish. I use this to join object- and cover-glass for microscopy if I need to make a permanent microscopy sample.

@@mrsolderfix3996 Nail varnish is dissolved in acetone, which can be very aggressive against many organic compounds, like plastics. In the organochemistry laboratory it's frequently used to clean organic compounds off glassware, like test tubes and beakers. It should not be an issue for FR4 boards, unless the adhesive between the layers dissolves in acetone. It may be wise to test this on a pcb that you are going to discard.

@LarixusSnydes , hi , I never use Acetone on my PCB 's as I know it's quite an aggressive fluid . I've heard a few people mention the same thing before . The cleaning fluids I've posted videos about have never involved Acetone for this reason . Thank you for a good point raised 👍

I keep a stock of through hole component remnant leads to use to fix traces that are larger than can easily be bridged with a solder blob but small enough where a piece of wire wouldn't be worth it to cut and try to strip. I also use that method when I need to bridge 2 pads and I want a good connection but don't want to have to buy a 0 ohm resistor.

Hi , thank you for your comment . If your via is missing ( no barrel either ) if the board is only double sided ( no inner layers ) you can run a small unsleeved wire through the hole in certain situations , then solder to 2 relevant points on either side of the board that recreate the via's connections . If your board has inner layers then you need the boards schematics to reconnect to all relevant points . I have done other pad replacement videos that may help also . If your board is just double sided and a big through plated barrel is missing look up PCB eyelets , these may help . Hopefully there's some info here that can help . Good luck 👍

Hi sir, would you mind making a video how to get a leg up from a pcb ? I'm having to much issues with lifting a pin on a big processor, but very skinny legs. It's a 144 processor I think, and I need to lift 1 pin up. For example the 6th one . Each time because of the limited space either the leg gets to hot and break or bends and gets damaged on pcb side. But it's so small that's every microml makes you touch the other pins

I was trying to desolder a WIFI chip from an LED plate but I ended ripping it off along with the pad. For some reason blasting hot air for several minutes with the pads already thinned just wasn’t doing enough to desolder it like it usually does. Is it because of the LED plate?
