Of course this is excellent work. I would personally prefer to see the sound board and keyboard covered while any work like this is carried out.

Yes, these repairs are very difficult. If your sanding isn't good, the scratches will show and you won't have a mirror-smooth surface.bSome of the items that you see, available from alliedpiano.com and also schaffpiano.com. These are all made by Konig Finishing, including their special cabinet scraper. 641-000 polyester filling lacquer 170-001 hardner, though any white benzoyl peroxide (bondo hardner) will work 100%. 215-000 black dye, usually their "intensive black" will match most pianos. 406-000 special scraper, the Konig cabinet scraper. It differs from a traditional cabinet scraper in that this one bends. Not for use on white polyester because of the amber color of this polyester resin. For whites, go with a water clear polyester - Tenaxo is suitable - and use a white UTC that matches. Konig's Rex Lithe is their version of a knife grade polyester, fyi.

I have just received a used piano which is in otherwise very good shape but there are a couple of minor chips which a lot of people would call "character" but I would not. "Character" has meaning and because I don't know what caused them, they are just minor damage. Your kit (poly resin and dye) is VERY large and I suspect expensive. Are there smaller such kits? After that, I definitely follow how I can easily fix the two "character marks." Honestly, I could probably get some high gloss model paint to touch it up and practically no one would notice. I would, of course. I'd rather see it filled in and polished smooth.

I have some new chips on my polyester finish on my Schafer & Sons approx. 2000 piano I need to repair, we were mounting a ceiling light that fell on top of the lid and caused 3 chips in the polyester finish that I need to fix. The color/stain is walnut and is fine. I need to build up the polyester fill to be level. What products did you utilize in your restoration? I saw your comment post with Allied Piano (I'll call them) but if you can provide, that would be great. This piano is my baby and I really need it restored perfectly. Thanks.

I have a “new” black polyester piano that was a floor model (the only one available…) that has lots of faint scratches and swirl marks that are only really visible in good light but it’s driving me insane. Would a series of sandings and compound buffing like you did towards the second half of the video be enough to basically re-polish the entire top panel of my piano that has all these swirls?
@99xara992 жыл бұрын
...aren't almost all pianos "floor models"? Getting a piano you've never played sounds like a terrible idea. I've played plenty of the same model line and they all sounded different. Anyway - did you end up doing anything to it? Mine is "new" too but has literally been in the showroom for 23 years, so it's got its scratches. I wouldn't do any of that on my own though!

what type of polyester is used on pianos? what company makes a good product and last can it be applied over precat lacquer.. Thanks.
@grubbetuchus3 жыл бұрын
On pianos in America they're using polyester made by either Ilva Polimeri or by ICS. To use polyester over a precat, it's best to strip off or grind down the precat. Or lay down a coat of isolante and build your polyester on top of that.

I have a black grand piano that I converted into a keyboard shell for traveling. Some glue got on part of the side of the shell, and I tried to remove it with alcohol, and now I have a hazy smudge area (similar to the way your piano looked in the middle of the video--streaks and smudges). Would simply using a buffer and wiping with the spray liquid you used fix this for me?? What was the spray/liquid you used, by the way?? Thanks in advance for any advice.

It will stand out as a color mismatch, usually a tone of gray by comparison.
