Side note: While driving home, my evilBay driveshaft vibrated so bad it snapped the bolts attaching it to the flange and destroyed my shift cable. The cable held the driveshaft off the ground long enough for me to get off the freeway. Ordered another one and will have it balanced before installing it this time. Also, used your tips on replacing the oil pan gasket yesterday. Will keep an eye out for leaks. Cheers brother

It continues to be an expensive lesson. One of the flange bolts tore through a boot on the passenger side, so now I have to order that as well. Will be looking through your videos to learn how to do that job now. Cheers

I was under the impression that the B20 engines used in 1997-2001 Honda CRVs were interference engines. I replaced the timing belt in mine in fear of ruining the engine if it broke. When I removed the old one, it looked new but had 187,000 miles on it. Was I mistaken in believing these engines are interference engines?

@@hondaresource I get what you're saying, but don't misguide people man, most Mercedes-Benz Engines are non interference engines, but here, we are talking about the most cost effective way to make a car, which is what Honda does in a reliable standpoint, but these engines are most definitely interference engines. Don't sit there and say they're non interference engines when we know for damn well they're most definitely interference engines. I love the content, but this steers me away when you give an opinion, not facts, that being said, you'll steer people away when giving opinions, because opinions are like assholes, we all have one. I know several people that had to replace there engines because of the snapped belt. I know you're in the RD1 group on Facebook too. You're very knowledgeable, so don't ruin your reputation by giving your opinion.

Love the channel, so keep up the great content. My question regards a valve lashing gone wrong. What do we do if after loosening the jam nut, you can't loosen the screw driver any further? I can't get any feeler gages in there at all. I still have compression, but I am sure the valve seat has received to far.

are you sure that the engine is rotated to the proper position?
@Antique_Outboard_Revival
@Antique_Outboard_Revival 8 ай бұрын
Maybe a silly question. When you remove the cam shaft, do you need to return the engine to original position it was when you removed them? And the timing gears as well? How does this affect timing? I need new valve stem seals and am worried I’ll mess the timing up
@hondaresource
@hondaresource 7 ай бұрын
you have to put it back in time, yes! use a paint marker to mark the orientation of the belt on cams and the crank so you can insure that you put it back at the same place

i just did my oil pan gasket (with help from this channel)and it was worth buying the sprung bolts etc that connect to the catalytic converter as mine where seized pretty bad and just cut them off.yours maybe ok?also the nuts where a bitch to get off at the manifold end;a good soaking in WD40 before hand would help,like the day before and keep soaking them and giving them a tap with a small hammer/spanner to help it work through...good luck! :)

I love your channel. Unfortunately I found it a little late. I have a 99 CR-V which I removed the cams and valves but I didn't keep them in order. Now I have a mean tik and hoping a lash adjustment fixes it. My question is when you put the cams back in is their a certain way to install them? Like TDC or something because one of my cams looks to be off a tooth towards the front of the truck and it runs but not as great as it did. I'm thinking about redoing it and following your video steps but I didn't see how you installed the cams.

Replacing all the valves stem seals is not even worth all that hard work. Pull out the cylinder head, buy the head gasket kit, send the cylinder head to a machine shop, and do the job right. If the valve stem seals need to be replaced, then guess what? So does the head gasket. Here in southern California, sending out the head to a machine shop is only $120, maybe a little more. And yes, I've already tried resurfacing the head myself, lapping the valves, but this saved me no money considering the time it takes to run the block back & forth across some flat surface with 2 sanding belts glued to it, then repeating the same process with a finer sand paper as a final step. Here in the U.S., you shouldn't be that poor, or that cheap to just send it out to a machine shop and reinstalling the head yourself.

Awesome! This task is next on the agenda. Question: Is it necessary to follow the removal sequence of the camshafts? I've heard "yes" and "no"? It looks like you zipped through it so I'm guessing not. Also, thanks for the detailed explanation of the rope method. I've seen it several times but didn't understand what other people were doing. No doubt I would have dropped a valve. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, I'll be ordering a t shirt and a hoodie. Take care.
