12:42 you ripped 4 pads in the top right corner. How does it still work? Yesterday I ripped just 1 pad and the laptop won't post, and its not even a reballed chip, but one that I bought form aliexpress..
@NikTelio3 жыл бұрын
many pads on the bga are used for ground and if you rip one or two it will not matter, the pads you saw me ripping where not connected to a trace and they just detached from the pcb during the procedure.
@DominikMuhelye3 жыл бұрын
@@NikTelio thanks for your answer, so my refurb chip was DOA.
@GeorgeGeorge-xj2bc4 жыл бұрын
The cleaning of pads is easier while the bottom heater heats the pcb and the lead free solder melts easier with less danger to stuck the braid and lift some pcb pad.

If reflowing wasn't a good long term solution why would reballing be any better. Are the leaded balls less prone to cracking?
@j.lietka94063 жыл бұрын
Reball it? Think it would be better to replace it! Is it me or is the fan kinda dirty?🤔 Also, does it help when the reball / replacement is done, to replace the corner sealant? Thanks & great work! The heat spreader, the small metal frame attached to the bottom of the board, it just comes out after lightly heating it?
@NikTelio3 жыл бұрын
Replacing those kind of chips is a better solution but some of them seem to work for many years after reballing/reflow, the corner sealant (chip glue) does not need to be replaced, the small metal frame on the bottom of the board is not a heat spreader, it is a frame that holds the heat sink and yes it comes out if you heat it.
@j.lietka94063 жыл бұрын
@@NikTelio so removing the metal frame prior to pre-heat & reflow/reball ops is best. Thanks.

Hi Nik.. in the past your advise helped me alot over reballing and stencil bending issue. Thanks.. i reballed an i7 cpu and when tried to solder to the board. The cpu popped like a popcorn at 220C.. preheat was 120 degree. Thus a broken cpu.. is there anything to put on the cpu when welding so the heat wont turn it into popcorn..??
@NikTelio4 жыл бұрын
Hello, no bga chip gets popcorned when the temperatures are within normal range, unless it has absorbed moisture by laying around for a long time before you tried to solder it back to the board, if you reballed with leaded solder balls then the melting temp is 182c, no need to go to 220c, 205-210 is ok, and about preheating and soldering process, preheating the board before you start the soldering process is important, after preheating the bottom heater is the one that provides the most heat, the top heater only helps a little to rise the temp at the bga area to the desired point, if the bottom heater can not provide the most heat and the top heater is used to provide much heat to raise the temp then the chip will get too hot and will probably be popcorned (regardless of the low board temp reading). i have popcorned many chips until i finished the fine tuning of my bga rework station.

So do you do repairs for people?. And by the way have been enjoying your content. Very well thought out station. Question. Normally are you driving heat from lower and upper ir heaters simultaneously?
@NikTelio4 жыл бұрын
Hello, i preheat the bottom heater (800watt) up to 180c and then i start the reflow profile, and both heaters work together to heat the pcb up to ~240c, the bottom heater is the one that delivers the most heat, the top heater (about 150watt) just helps to rise the temperature on the bga area and reach at least 220c to melt the solder. i do not do repairs for people just for a few friends.
