Work is not slowing down this week. More tools are coming in than going out.
We must be the Christmas rush, which is a problem, as I have only got 2 more weeks before I'm off for the Christmas holidays.
Remember, all these videos are only to help others and spread awareness that tools don't always need to be replaced.
They are not to advertise for more work.
I can not take in extra repairs. All these repairs are for local customers who have dropped them into the shop themselves.
I will not be taking on extra work, I'm afraid.

love the old Elu tools, and still have some working fine after 35 years.Their routers and chop saws were the template that many other manufacturers followed, as they were the trade carpenters choice.

Me too. Iv got an old 110v Elu biscuit jointer that works like it’s new still. And a 1/4 router that also works like new but has lost favour to my 18v makita. can’t bear to part with it tho as it still a nice tool to use!… now just a back up tool.

I had that same Elu router in the 120v flavor up until a fire sale a couple of years ago. You can 100% get the controller and tachometer for cheap from any Dewalt service center. BYO Bearings. That’s the first thing Black & Decker cheaped out on with the bastardized yellow versions. Big time. PS - it’s missing a nut. Two on the left thread at the top.

That ELU MOF 177 is an excellent machine. It can always be repaired even if it is 40 years old. If someone wants to change bearings on one of these routers, don't forget to put in the orange switch BEFORE you're reassembling the two main parts. At 34:05 is the time when the orange switch in the left upper part of the screen should have been fitted, after that it's not possible anymore. Dean had to reverse everything between 34:05 and 36:59. If you're doing it yourself, don't forget that little detail 🙂

Paslode frustrate me if I’m honest,. They were the industry standard in nail guns world wide for DECADES.. I can’t see why they didn’t invest heavily into battery guns BEFORE everyone else added battery guns to there range. you only ever meet the older generation of tradesmen using gas/paslodes these days. Guns they invested. Into YEARS AGO. anyone new to the trades is buying someone else’s battery guns. shame really. dying brand in that sense.

I've had two of them MOF 177 1/2" routers & two MOF 96E 1/4" & at the time there was no better Routers available. When the last MOF 177 got stolen I replaced it with an Hitachi (I still got it) & it's fucking garbage compared to the Elu & I still got one of the original Trend that replaced the 96E but the switches are crap the Trend has had about 5 new switches. I got the beast Festool OF2200 as main 1/2" router now but them Elu now Dewalt are still seriously well balanced & nice to use Routers. The design has barely changed in 30yrs & for good reason. I was surprised at just how much of a pig they are to open up for the bearings though.

I am a new subscriber who is binge watching. I came across an episode where you unloaded on Milwaukee Tools. Having been born in Milwaukee I’ve always preferred Milwaukee tools and never had a lick of problems. I am transitioning to cordless and again never an issue. My question is should I be doing any preventative maintenance other than a thorough cleaning and sharpening at the end of the season. Specifically a chain saw, hedge trimmer, string trimmer or blowers (M18). I respect what you’re doing and enjoy how you teach as you go.
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 7 ай бұрын
Just remember, Milwaukee is not the same Milwaukee of old. They are made and owned in china now and not the same quality. Yes cleaning them down will help and but keeping everything sharp is most important. dull blades will put more load on the motor which can cause it to draw to many amps and cook components inside. also when using them never overload them, you cannot abuse them like you would a 2 stroke engine tool.

HI, I love watching handling those power tools with so much experience. I watched a lot of them already and just wondering why each armature still arching after replacing brushes needs to be replaced instead of just cleaning and polishing the commutator? Is it because the remaining copper is usually to thin to work properly or it's a time saver? I think I didn't see a video yet where it was restored.
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 7 ай бұрын
Cleaning the com bars dosent do anything. It simply looks fresh until the machine is turned on. The black on The com bar is graphite from the brushes, it is conductive anyway and have no effect on how it runs. Plus the black mark will return the second the armature is powered up.

I can see why you have a busy succesful business there I used to work for a large small tools hire company in the UK and thier philosophy was if its broke replace it the customer pays ,in fact they made more profit from charging for replacement kit than they did from hire revenue after the hire revenue was taken into the equation. As you have a shop as well the same scenario could exist but obviously does'nt and it is a testimony to your honesty and integrity that you have a loyal customer base.

@@Studio23Media a lot of companie do sell parts. look at some of the older stuff dean has repaired on this channel. some companies are great. if talking about the companies that are not set up. look at all the cheap brands out there like the diy big box stores like b and q etc. their own brand and cheap tools have no parts back up,. a lot of them could disapear if its not feasible to cheaply sell the parts. the big companies are not going to pull out like milwaukee but will make it hard to get parts. it will depend on what the law says. if its a blanket right to repair nothing will change but if its a right to get the parts indevidually and repair then it will change things. it is a disgrace that you can have a broken switch worth a few euro and have to spend a hundred buying an assembly with loads of bits that are not needed. time will tell what happenes

My question precisely. I think he might do that to amuse himself, knowing it will have us scratch our heads wondering WTF. There is no way those brushes got burned in 20 seconds of use. The only thing I can think of is a possible irregular cut-in developing on the brushes' contact surfaces caused by the damaged armature, but come on, that's no reason for a new set. Might simply be an OCD quirk (which I can partially relate to) new armature must have new brushes, period, no other options are acceptable.
