Todays video we finish stripping down the chassis by removing the boarder pieces of the floor pans, inspect the frame head and come up with a game plan so we can move forward with the build.
Hopefully it will be repairable so we can continue on the chassis push over the next few months and get the Sickxty on schedule for VDUBRUN22!
Thank you for watching.

@@VWJawbreaker liking your approach to the frame head repair. At first when I saw the extent of the rust, I thought you were mad when you considered repairing, but your cool, calm approach works again. the box steel is a great idea to add that strength. Looks crunchy at the bottom but you’re doing a great job of cleaning it up. I suggest rust converter inside the tunnel. If you’ll treat it like the body it’ll be good. Be careful you don’t overstuff the tunnel because there’ll be hell to pay when you need to replace your front shifter bushing.

It was toasty but manageable. I did soak the inside with ospho and then threw a bunch of paint in there to help keep things at bay. Still plenty of room for the shift rod to come out, I made sure of that 👍

In my naïve mind I would've tried to fix the nose back the way it was originally. I forget to think outside the box most of the time. Now that I've seen how you are choosing to do it I think you needed to do that anyway with regards to the extension. I mean I could be wrong, but if your plans are for off-roading then it could've proven weak in the first place. By the way, I enjoyed the cleaning part of the restoration. It's as if I was at a real turning point in the project and could begin to see the future clearer. Anyways, I know I typically type way too much so I'll leave it at that and look forward to seeing you soon. Nice work VWJ! Take ease!

There definitely would have been a lot of weakness in the front as it was. I’m glad I opened it up to see what all was there… or wasn’t there. I do plan on taking it off road but not jumping it or beating it hard so this repair will help make everything nice and strong again. Thanks for your insight and thoughts, I appreciate it!

Hey Gary, very nice repair job, I really liked the square tube, with the rust you have it’s to bad you couldn’t get a look at the clutch tube weld tabs, I’ve had a ton of VWs and only had a couple break, but they are hard to get into and fix when everything is back together, I can’t believe how cool it is seeing you roll the tunnel around in the driveway, 😀😀i didn’t think to mention that maybe you might run a hydraulic clutch, hence the edited comment

Hi Garry🇺🇸, well man there you have some work to bite on👏 It`s not the easiest to do but you will manage it,🍀 I`m a little concerned about the grave rust inside the place where you will weld the new plate🤔, and also further in the tunnel, I admire your diligence patience and the determination to get this almost impossible done🙏.an interesting restoration that I will follow to the end.greetings buddy from Hubertus,🇳🇴☮👍🏻

Gary , over at Home Depot in the paint area near the thinners ,they have some junk called Kleen Sweep cement and metal prep . I got some 2 weeks ago for under 18$ a gallon that was with tax. It is sorta like Ospho . You can take it at a 50/50 water mix and etch the metal. use it straight to eat the rust , as long as you don't let it dry . Like The Big Os. it will leave a film . That paint won't stick to , ???
