Happy to help! I’m a big Conn collector and loved seeing those instruments!

Wow Matt, what a great residency you had. Wish my conn looked like one of those babies!

That is just amazing. Thanks for bringing us along. When I was young, any kind of Conn was considered a rubbish horn (at least in my limited circle). It’s been interesting over the years you’ve been making these videos to learn so much about these different brands and how important and innovative they were. I’d love to go see this museum.

Thank for the awesome video! It made me nostalgic. A small handful of those horn were displayed in a concourse when I was there in the 90s. I think a couple of the C melody saxes. I remember staring at them walking from one class to the next. There were always rumors that the school had a huge collection but we never got to see it. There were also many drawers filled with vintage mouthpieces, under lock and key. Once in a while when you played Bari for an ensemble or needed a better mouthpiece, they would unlock the drawers and you'd get to pick one out to use for the semester. Richard Hawkins was there at the time and would go through them (the mouthpieces) and even up the rails and tables.

What a fascinating collection. And, it seems, the best-qualified man around doing the commentary. Thank you.

HOLY SMOKES! That Conn-O-Sax. Wow! And the amazing engraving was so lovely it really looked like tropical leaves. Excellent content, Matt. Thank you for sharing this with us! I was holding my breath for you to mention anything related to the 30M 😊

Matt, thank you so much for this video. It has been a fantastic reference (and very envious of having the possibility a brass repair class as a kid). Hope all is going well

Great video! Awesome opportunity to review such an collection. Is it possible to share serial number of the Aldophe Sax C Melody ? I would like to check if this is included in the A. Sax registry. The listing of the 9 known to still exist. Also there are several of us historians seeking to find the serial number / dating of the first C. G. Conn C melody-origin. A High Pitch #13623, 1908 being the eldest found to date. Sincerely, P. Squealer.

sorry, this comment was automatically withheld for some reason and I did not see it until now. The C melody is serial 17401, and I believe it is known.

Yes it’s listed at the same facility. Date is 1858. Thank you 👍

Is the couf superba 1 sorpano a stretch soprano? I measured it against my selmer 802 and it was longer. Do you need an original couf mouthpiece for it to play it in tune ?

Hey Mr Stohrer, can you give an opinion on Non-Japanese made Asian horns (The cheap ones) from your experience if you've had any.. I'm Indian and the Yamaha or any "student" horns that are being recommended costs a LOT in Indian currency even if they are pre-owned/secondhand cos of import taxes and what not. I'm planning to buy a Chateau for around 60-70k (Indian rupee) which is around 800 dollars I think, or a cheaper Diplomat, if you've had any experience with them, please reply😅 Ive played guitar and keyboard (of the 300 dollar price range )before and no complaints on them as I'm not a "professional." I need a horn that will last me atleast 4/5, years (even more if I take care of it) to practice on so that I can make up my mind if I want to play it more with a better Model.
