$100 repair work for a $20 reel 🤣 Amazing work either way! I’ve wanted to do this to so many reels but realized the value isn’t worth the effort and supplies.

There was a few times, I was like noooo what is he doing…🫣😄 But I have to say you did a good job! I think it could still use some oil on the bearings and the spool shaft but overall it turned out nice. Good job 👍🏼
I highly doubt this gentleman is the engineer who design the product. few smart people may deassemble all parts but no one can't reassemble it back. amazing work. really admire you. you have all my respect.
@VickiAnkney4 ай бұрын
Well there is a few of us that can still strip it to the bones over haul it [repair it for you new generation guys] and reassemble with fresh lubricant and it works as good as new. When you've been doing it from 1965 you learn the in and outs of all reels quickly. Parts now that is a whole new subject,. I've enjoyed it all these years and there is nothing any more rewarding than bringing a old reel back to life and I'm still doing it today. Same thing with a old fishing rod striping all the guides off and rewinding with new and a lot better quality guides just gives that old boy some character and brings back memories of all of those fish that were caught in the past.Tight lines to all.

Wow haven't seen these in years. Entry level Olympic reel, mid to late 80's. Only one ball bearing. The head is not original. Not a good choice to go fishing but it would look nice as a vintage themed room.

Is it worth doing this? As in the time etc? Where i live the bays are super salty and the inside of reels look WAY worse than that. The hex circlip you pulled up, i've had them rust through in 2-3 years and even the centre shaft rusted beyond saving even with a wire wheel

yep, the oscilating system looks original: an excentrical shape directly embeded in the outside of main gear and a slave outer round shaped piece wich forces the oscilation, clever and simple. I saw many spinning reels get out oif duty by a fail in the oscilating system. A worm and thoot system is considered the best solution (specially in longcasting reels) but its higly expensive.This solution look very smart.

Nice work but,its alot of effort for low quality reel . I would not really spend time on that . If your really into it though , i would say have at it . For me it would have to be a Penn 704 reel or something similar to put in that kind of effort . That reminds me I have to get going on my Penn 704 rebuild hahaha .

I think refurbishing reels would be a great opportunity to powder coat a lot of parts. That would make then impervious to rust and peeling and be able to work a lot longer without as much servicing them. However, you really did a great refurbishing of this reel... Thumbs Up!

Nice job. I have repaired dozens of reels, I got satisfaction doing so. How ever at 60 yrs old I am glad to say there are better alternatives to repairing, throw the damn things out ! For $100 you can buy a new Daiwa BG or an Okuma (which is cheap and easy to repair). I have no less than 60 reels and a bucket w another 10 that repairs did not restore to new condition. And if your a fresh water fisherman you can buy $50 reels that should last years, in SW Florida it's all salt for me.

Nice job. It's always a satisfaction, when one manages to restore an old reel. Since I also like to work on old reels, I have a few questions. Hope you don't mind answering. What stuff did you use to clean the parts (7:10)? In what kind of liquid did you soak the parts after sand blasting them and why (8:40)? What kind of paint did you use (9:40)? And why two kinds of paints for the shiny parts (11:50)?

I got a free vintage Quantum reel thrown in with the eBay purchase of another reel and the free one is almost as old and is in similar condition to the one in this video. I have this video saved in my Watch Later list, so that I could restore the old Quantum. After watching this video, I realized I do not own the $3000+ in tools and equipment used in this video, nor do I have 30 spare hours available, to turn a two dollar reel into one that is about half as good as one I can buy off Amazon for $18 new (a 4000-sized Quantum Optic is $17.64 and is decent quality). I just threw my old Quantum in the garbage.
