Very good tradesman there and it is a really nice place, had my boat on the hard there for a while for an engine replacement. Best farmers market in the whole country.🌻

Glad you like my hometown, it's a great place to do anything on a boat. I have built 2 boats there and then sailed them around the Pacific for a bit. The town basin has changed so much from what I knew as a kid, there was only 20-30 boats there when my Dad had his moored on the piles.

One of your best. A great expose of a unique marine town where it could be said that New Zealand and Oud Zeeland converge in spirit.

A friend from New Zealand visited me in Vancouver, Canada, a few years ago and exclaimed 'Where are all the boats?'. I took him to False Creek, that probably has fifty or sixty boats anchored there and he said, that in the equivalent space back home, they would have squeezed in a few hundred boats. Now I can see what he meant.

Every circumnavigators seem to stop in NZ for a major refit. I wanted to take a route through Kiritmati, Phoenix, Gilbert islands etc. But is a stop in NZ almost inevitable, given the wear and tear on a boat with those long passages?
