I said this in a reddit thread already but we could just say she went into Athel Loren meditating or assisting the wood elves and returned to Bretonnia when what seemed like 1 month was actually 500 years

A bit of a historical error made when discussing St. Joan of Arc, she fought for the French, and was killed by the English, as they were at war and the English knew she was capable of defeating them
@BringDHouseDown3 жыл бұрын
it was separatist french who captured her and then sailed off to England, she was tried with a bullshit charge and burned at the stake in England, if they had attempted to do that in France those separatists would have been burned instead, so no, she the use of the word gratitude in a sarcastic way doesn't apply in this story, since it was the enemy she was fighting that burned her.

To be honest, my initial reaction wasn't quite welcoming under the influence of our current times. BUT after watching this video and discovering the lore behind her. I'm absolutely smitten by the poetic beauty of having a Jeanne d’Arc personification with a happy Ending in an otherwise grim-dark Universe. You could assume, in a World where Evil is such strong force manifest, a person like Repanse de Lyonesse would be adored, respected and worshiped. Love it, she's gonna be my next Mortal Empires Campaign. Thanks for your content, enjoyed to great extend!

moiseman exactly, so not making a new asset for her banner was lazy/half assed. It’s like if they didn’t give Isabella her blood chalice, or only gave Manfred his staff or his sword. Why cut out her most iconic item? Anyway, I just saw a video about her starting location, so it appears they have completely discarded her lore and revamped her. So I guess the banner is a non issue regardless.

I honestly think GW went way too far even by Warhammer standards in making Bretonnia lore cartoonishly over the top as possible to the point that its totally immersion breaking, and I don't say that much about Warhammer. I mean, 90% tax is statistically impossible to survive on, and would not produce anything, much less longbowmen. The constant inbreeding would leave the peasantry sterile in a few generations, and on the brink of starvation 24/7, Bretonnia would frankly fall apart in a few years if put into the real world. And the extreme oversimplification of medieval structure to just Lords and Peasants is just boring and lazy. Frankly, I just disregard it, imagine a realistic feudal society backing the Knights of Bretonnia and move on.
@moiseman5 жыл бұрын
@@matthewchristiansen9978 It's not GW though, most of the stupidly exaggerated sarcastic writing come from WH fantasy RPG books which were written by third parties / freelancers. In the actually army books you literally have written cases of peasant earning nobility by defending villages and hunting monsters.
@trolldrool4 жыл бұрын
@@moiseman In Warhammer 5th edition, young nobles had to earn their knighthood by protecting the peasentry and the infantry were well fed men-at-arms, trained to serve their lord to the best of their ability. One of the most famous knights who served alongside Gilles Le Breton, Duke Montfort, was so well known for his fair treatment of the commoners that his name would become a Vow taken by knights that chose to fight on foot with the infantry rather than charge on horse surrounded by their noble peers. In Warhammer 6th or 7th edition (whichever is when Bretonnia got their next rulebook), GW decided that was too positive and not grimdark enough and made it all about the peasants being oppressed by a hypocritical nobility so that instead of Bretonnia being a portrayal of the stereotypical fantasy of chivalry it was transformed into the exxagerated stereotypical historical portrayal of chivalry. Neither is accurate, but GW wanted Warhammer Fantasy to be darker and edgier. I got both army rulebooks in my shelves and can confirm that whether GW came up with it or not, they most certainly embraced it.
@moiseman4 жыл бұрын
@@trolldrool Nah 6th bretonnian army book is edgier for sure but it's nowhere near as grimdark as the WHFRP books. In the army book you can still read stuff about knights vowing to protect the weak, their peasants etc and that honouring their vows is the most important things to knights and stuff like that.
