Thanks sooo much Jennifer, I was really at a lost reading these signs on my music sheet and I was actually stuck and could not figure out where to go after the second repeat sign. I’m currently learning Time in a Bottle. It’s been over a year since my last piano lesson so I’m pretty rusty even though I play some every couple days. I want to thank you very much for this lesson. DC et al has always been very confusing to me. Your explanation and written examples have really clarified this for me. The review using actual sheet music was brilliant. “Da Capo” literally means “from the top.” That always reminds me of hearing “take it from the top” during aerobic exercise! (Therefore, that means to repeat the beginning of that portion of the workout!) As for “Dal Segno,” I think “Il Segno” is supposed to be a combination of the “repeat the previous measure” symbol and the letter “S” which probably stands for “Segno.”

Qu: when you go back to the segno sign, why are you repeating everything again, as immediately after thr segno sigh the double-dotted measure starts? Agh. Did my qu come across well enough? Thank you, you're a great teacher!

Hopefully I understand your question correctly. If not, please feel free to clarify! Once a repeat happens it’s considered finished. You don’t do it again unless there are specific instructions to do so. So, if you’ve done a repeat already if you’re instructed to go back with a DC or a DS then you ignore any repeats you already did. Thanks for watching and commenting!
