Great video. I have a few additions. Ariens 46" rider. Same basic setup. I was randomly stranded in a field that i rode to. 1/4 mile away. Belt snapped. Had an extra in the shed, always have an extra belt. Thanks to this vid and 18% phone battery i accomplished this with 0 tools, not removing the deck, and not raising the unit. I see the comments about removing the battery under the seat. Couldn't do it. Kohler engine, battery is under the hood. Gas tank is under the seat. Step 1- drop the deck. Step 2- attach a ratchet strap to the clutch pedal to keep it pressed Step 3- route the belt from the center to the front engine pulley, left it around the shaft, you need the play. Step 4- route the belt straight to the rear pulley. My model i was able to access the fan from a cutout on each side of the mower above the axle. Enough to get the belt around the fan and pulley. Those blades were very pliable btw but age and wear will play a factor. Step 5- i routed the belt around the 3 center pulleys from front to rear. Step 6- removed the strap, laughed and finished the job. Since the belt snapped i didn't know how to route it and because i couldn't raise and didn't remove the decki needed this vid. I had to feel my way through the job. Saw a bunch but none were useful. Awesome vid, can't thank you enough. Just know that in a pinch you can do it in the middle of nowhere. Good luck everyone!

Dennis Coffey, This week I watched many of your videos before tackling the 5 year maintenance on my 2015 Husqvarna YTA22V46. You made my life so much easier and saved me lots of money in the process. Although my mower is similar to the YTH22V46, it does have some differences, when following your video for the drive belt replacement I found that removing the battery and battery box gave me clear access to drive belt in the back and it was easy peasy to route the belt in place. Let me know if you want the parts list as posted under the hood of the mower.
@dwcoffey3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching, Pete! Also, thanks for sharing that info about the YTA22V46! A couple of other folks have mentioned the same on the YTH22V46....that getting the old belt off and the new belt on was easier for them by removing the battery and battery box for easier access to the top of the transaxle. Thanks!!

On a Craftsman mower (917.28xxxx, which were made by Husqvarna from around 2010 to 2018) use the same technique. The belt size is 1/2 inch X 92 inches. Some books say 921/4" and others say 92 1/2". I've used the 92 inch and it works, although tight. Sears suggests removing the front pully (it has two pulleys on it) so you can easily remove the belt; just use a 5/8" socket on a impact wrench (I used my battery powered wrench and found it works very well) . I found it is an easy way to assist in removing the belt. Great video. I've watched it a number of times and see something I missed each time. Dennis, you did a great job of explaining the process & procedure. My suggestion for a future video is to show good ways to troubleshoot different issues. Topics: "How to know when its time to change the belts; testing for level; testing for blade sharpness; testing the lights, etc.

Dennis what a great video! I have the exact riding lawn mower in your video. I have had the mower for about 8 years now and over the years I have replaced the deck and drive belts. You have a great video by-the-way on replacing the deck belt. I have replaced both the deck and drive belts without removing the deck. It is a little bit of a pain the replace the drive belt with the deck still attached but it can be done if you support the front of the mower with jack stands and the rear with jack stands but place the jack stands under the crossmember which is in-front-of the transaxle. My solution for removing he belt from the transaxle fan was to remove the battery and battery tray and you have direct access to the transaxle fan and pulley and lower the deck as low as possible.
@dwcoffey3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Rex! Yes, I didn't show that in the video, but pulling the battery and box gives you good access to the top of the transaxle. Thanks again!

Got my mower in 2014 and want to change this belt as well as the blade belt. The ones I have seen have you removing the FRONT pulley and also the battery box. You show just how to do the same thing but with a way better technique. I will be saving this video and when the belts arrive will be doing the job the best way I have seen it done, YOURS!!
@dwcoffey3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Jack! Yes, I think that Craftsman and the Husqvarna are basically the same mower. Once you get into the belt change, you may find it easier to pull the battery box for access to the top of the transmission. I don't have any trouble getting the belt off from underneath (like in the video) but I understand some people do, and pulling the battery box makes it easier for them. Thanks again for the kind words, I appreciate it!

Great video Dennis. Saved a lot of time. After 2 hours trying to get the belt over the fan blade, I took out the battery, much easier! Thanks for posting this.

I really should have shown that option in the video, several people have mentioned to me that they've done better by pulling the battery out. I'm sorry about costing you a couple of hours. Thank you for watching!

I found an easier way of getting your belt off. When you in the middle of your yard and it snaps you can just grab one end of it and ever so easy pull it out. Lol. Great video. Now I see how to put it back on. 👍

LOL! Yea, I've used that method to remove my belt before too!! Thanks for watching!

I was about to tackle this job on my Husqvarna YTH24V48 and thought I would check KZbin to see if there were any videos that might help. I didn't expect to find a video this good! Great photography and even better explanation of the process. I use my tractor for mowing and blowing snow, and I noticed a small amount of slip last winter. Since the deck is off getting ready to install the snow blower, now is the time. I already heave the Rhino Ramps! Awesome job! Thanks for posting!

Hi Dennis, excellent video!, I have a Troy-Bilt bronco, I just replaced the drive belt, but know the driving pedal is very hard and when I engage forward, the belt smoke. Any thoughts highly appreciated. With regards Mike

Great tutorial video!! I am not mechanically by nature and I was able to change the belt in under 40 minutes due to this video. As others have pointed out, remove the battery and battery try as it always access to work around the plastic fan blades! And I only removed my deck as I was not able to jack or raise the tractor and had no problems. Thank you so much.

Dennis, thanks for the well done video! It certainly helped me get my drive belt on and off (several times in the past few days). The order of your steps and the info on how to deal with the guard on the engine pulley were very useful. Turns out I had cracked transaxle mounting brackets that were resulting in the drive belt coming off the transaxle. AutoHelix has a very good video on how to repair that.
@dwcoffey2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, John! I have not had that problem, but I think it is fairly common. Glad you found the AutoHelix video.

Dennis Coffey You are welcome. The lawnmower worked great for 421 hours, then just stopped a moving. Just like I hit a light switch. I spent a lot of time looking for a mechanical/linkage issue. I guess I put the belt replacement on the 400 hour list. Thanks again.

Just lay the mower on it's side and you don't have to crawl under it and you can sit on a milk crate and change out the drive belt while you are having a Beer.

I backed mine up on my old steel car ramps after removing the deck on my old 46" Poulan Pro. Got the belt loose from the idler wheel and center pulleys and front pulley but couldn't get my ham sized hands back in there enough for the fan pulley. Ended up taking out the battery under my seat and then the battery box and BOOM, staring straight down at the fan pulley atop the hydrostat :D Easy peasy to get it off then. Thanks again for everything else though.

Thanks for watching! Yes, that battery box hole is pretty convenient for accessing the top of the transmission!

I want to say ditto!!! Omg sir this has been the most informative and easy to understand video on mechanical work I've ever seen. I absolutely love how u added the small tips to prevent any other damage to other parts ..example the fan blades and the bar in front of the deck when removing it first.. it turns a mechanical job into a nightmare when u have to then replace other parts not planned because u broke something accidentally. Thank you Soo Soo much. Oh.. haha and I am a single woman that is repairing her own Husqvarna yard tractor 😁 and saving herself unnecessary cost to have someone else do it ...thanks to u sir.
