We were recommended to replace our aging main water supply line with pex. While it may be used successfully in some city residentual environments, we have had nothing but trouble here in the country. It is a long way from our meter to the house. Moles are attracted to it and tunnel from nearby pasture and have bitten holes in it several times in the last two years! Unfortunately we were not aware until we started getting huge water bills in addition to plumbers repair bills. An expensive lesson learned the hard way! One professional told us that pex sweats and the moles may have been attracted to it during the droughts. We decided to go back to pvc schedule 40.

Your professionalism is a cut above the rest. I don’t know how you do it. Great job on all 3 fronts; the service and repair, production and telling the story, and putting up with “pipe fit.. plumbers” lol who can’t help but watch an learn something but feel the need to chime in to feel like their way is the best. It might be cause I’m just a lowly journeyman, but the Master Plumber I apprenticed under said there is more than one way to lay pipe! An there will always be something someone can teach you even if it’s not as efficient as yours. Take from everyone and every experience you come across plumbing and form your own style. He said never stop learning or get stuck in your ways. Oh and be kind to people willing to show quality work for free. Lol well maybe not the last one. Thanks for the video guys and God bless!

The reason for the insulation isn't to "keep the dirt off the PEX line, as told in this video and its not to cushion the line from rocks. The insulation is just for what it is always used for, to keep the line from freezing. Even here in Las Vegas, where it's legal to bury the line 12" down, we use insulation for that once in a lifetime deep freeze. That said, without the special tool for the fillings, it's not very feasible for the normal homeowner. PVC may still be the best option where allowed.

Why a 90° coupler at all? Why just not curve the pipe? I trenched a soft curved conture as opposed to a right angle. I did not require elbows, just two pinch clamps at either end (used PEX B, readily available at all box stores for DIY'Rs).

Is that a copper to galvanized steel connection at the house you have there? Won't that cause problems later?
@TwinHomeExperts
@TwinHomeExperts 7 жыл бұрын
Our connection to the house is pex to copper, Yes, Gal and copper materials do not get along. The 2 metals create electrolysis and will cause corrosion.
@jesserod2601
@jesserod2601 4 жыл бұрын
This always trips me up because from what I understand is in order to have electrolysis happens , you need (a) electricity (even a negligible amount which happens when there is a ground on the pipes ) and (b) requires 2 dissimilar metal pipe. And from what I understand, water is a conductor of electricity so even if the metal pipe is disrupted by Pex , wouldn’t the water act as a jumper cable? In this video the galvanized pipe and the copper join together as they are directly grounded to the soil. That being said, I’m sure it would take a long time for a problem to arise and the alternative could be cost prohibitive . So, I would probably proceed in a similar fashion but, later when that customer rings me and I see the name in the caller I.d. , the 1st thing that pops in my head is “dammit I bet that joint sprang a leak”
