Just a few tips from someone who has worked on antique machinery for many years. Study your project before you tear it apart so you understand the mechanics. Pressure clean or clean your work surfaces to reveal any alan set screws etc and also to keep your hands clean for your task. Take pictures! Use a good penetrating oil and let it soak for a long while before you start the project. If you have a set of torches use them or at least use MAPP gas instead of propane, it is a lot hotter if you need to apply heat. Be patient and try not to destroy your components by force. Invest in a good set of pullers. Use U tube!!! I was very fortunate to have my father as my KZbin and taught me literally when I was in diapers and growing up. Learn how to do the project and teach others what you know. " Understanding is a wellspring of life to them who have it." Most anyone can do the projects, if you understand how it works.

Next time you do a pulley removal... Spray a lil WD... Tighten the puller snug.. Remove ratchet.. Then tap the puller center bolt with a hammer.. Snug a little more and tap again.. Repeat.. It usually shouldn't take more then a few minutes using this procedure.. Even with heavy rust oxidation..

@TheRandyDulin3 жыл бұрын
Engine swap is definitely easier than swapping the transmission but it’s not actually that bad. I’ve done 3 transmissions at this point and this was definitely the most difficult but only because the pulley was rusted to the transmission. If that hadn’t happened this would’ve been a pretty easy job

Hey I have a 48 inch scag with a peerless 700-026 transmission that needs replaced, was wondering if I had to get the 700-026 or will other 700 models work as well? I saw on eBay they had the 700-070A and it looks very similar to the one I have. Thanks!
@TheRandyDulin6 жыл бұрын
It might but the issue you'll run into is the splines on the coupler. Some of these transmissions have different numbers of splines and if you get the wrong one you'll end up spending more money replacing the couplers. Looks like 700-026 is on eBay for $175. I'd just buy the correct one since it's so cheap.

Please read... You didn't have to go through all of the transmission-pulling pain. There is a C-clamp holding on the pulley. The C clamp is just under the pulley and under a bunch of caked-on mud. You take that clip off and then the pulley requires about 100lbs of force pulling down (more than I could do alone, but it came off with a second set of hands helping me). You can then take the transmission off normally (no fire, no destroying the pulley, no cutting).
@TheRandyDulin4 жыл бұрын
You’d typically be correct but on this particular machine the c clip was removed but the pulley was rusted to the shaft and wouldn’t budge, hence all the chaos that followed lol
@neildberg4 жыл бұрын
@@TheRandyDulin I got really worried when I saw the video, happy when we saw/removed the C-clip, sad when the pulley didn't come right off, and then we had a little happy party after the pulley slid off after getting a lot of force pulling down. Yeah, with much rust that would have been another story! You might consider putting "check for C clip" after the "remove the set screw" and before you put on the puller. Mine was REALLY stuck up in there and nearly invisible until I got rid of a ton of dirt. You can find it by spinning the pulley and feeling for the open end under your fingernail. At any rate, thanks a ton for the video. This really helped us a lot!

How long since you replaced the belt? Sounds to me like the belt is slipping when the transmission is working harder. Depending on the age of the machine it could be something else but belt is the most likely culprit in my opinion
@chusisg5 жыл бұрын
What was the reason to replace? I have a 48” toro belt drive and it use to ride and pull me easy but now it doesn’t move it’s on any gear. Unless it’s super flat and smooth. Would you say I need a new trans? Or could it be something else?
@TheRandyDulin5 жыл бұрын
My first move would be to make sure the belt going from the engine to the trans is properly tensioned. If it is then then I’d replace the belt first

I have an older 44" proline and the shaft bearing on the right side keeps backing out, pushing the wheel pulley up against the bracket plate. Do you know how to fix that? It still works, but I'm sure over time, the pulley rubbing on the plate is going to cause some type of failure.
@TheRandyDulin6 жыл бұрын
Harrison Goff if the bearing is coming out of the flange bearing assembly than I'd just replace the whole assembly. Pretty easy to do, same basic process as replacing the belt with an additional step or two thrown in. Part only costs about 30 bucks

Sir just want your opinion I got a 2014 scag 36 walk behind and at the time of use it it only works good like 20 minutes or less then when I try to go up hills the transmisión it not pulling at all then when I turn it around it works perfect on down hills and flat surfaces, I will appreciate if you can give me your opinion on what is going on with this machine
@TheRandyDulin6 жыл бұрын
First thing I would check is if the belt has enough tension on it and then go from there

+Ousama Abdu it’s a 14hp engine. The job took about 6 hours but that’s because I had to go buy tools and the pulley was seized onto the transmission shaft. If Not for that then tilt would’ve been a 2 or 3 hour job

My mower only goes into first gear and pay pulls a little bit. And the others it doesn't pull at all if on flat ground maybe. Any suggestions as to what I need to do ?? Or what it could be.
@TheRandyDulin6 жыл бұрын
What kind of machine is it? My first thought would be to check and make sure there's enough tension on the belt running from the engine to the transmission. It's very possible the belt is stretched and you either need to adjust the tensioner pulley or the belt needs to be replaced. I'd start there.
@playtimet.v73426 жыл бұрын
