2002 Vitara. Ordered kit while waiting took the boots and retainer off. On mine the shifter retainer would not slide off the shift leaver I had to cut the retainer when the kit came no black spacer to shim the spring. I installed the spring the black spacer was not needed. The moral of the story wait for the parts to come in install the spring and check fit before you go hacking on your shifter.

Nice work! Do you have any replacement boots for the top of the shifter? Mine is completely disintegrated been trying to find a cv axle boot to replace it because haven't found anything else that might work.

question for yah. so I bought a geo tracker and started cleaning it out. i decided to remove the center console. I started twisting the shifter knob loose and the entire shifter stick got loose. pulled it out and saw that the spring is broken. I didnt replace the spring yet, but I put the shifter back into the transmission to see if I can still shift gears. for some reason I cant shift into gears. the shifter seems to be going into first second third fourth and 5the but when i let go of the clutch nothing happens and the vehicle doesnt cut off it still idles. so it seems like its sensing in neutral. this started happening since I removed the shifter. so my question for you is, does the spring have anything to do with the transmission going into gear.

I just bought this kit for my 1998 tracker, my kit doesn't have that black spacer tho, is that ok????

This video is several years old. Our new kit does not require the spacer.

You did not mention Samurai in the title. Does this video and spring work for the SAMURAI as well ?

Hey curious if anyone has used this on a 1994 jimny?! Ja11!? My shifter is so sloppy. I’ve had it sitting for like a month. Need a fix! All the original Japanese parts are discontinued but hoping this could be a fix since the cars are basically the same?!

Jimny is a Samurai. You'll have better luck comparing your parts to the ones shown in our Samurai shifter upgrade video
