the brown stains tell the story, that's overheated + seized, towed back to a garage, coolant sorted + new oil + filter, towed back into life, then part-exed into your mates garage hard to bleed, yeah, that's a hint to what happened last time...

Had one (in a Panda) and it blew the head gasket at 60K. That seems to be their weakness - too much pressure in the cooling system and one day it goes bang. Mechanically will go on for ever...so I know that's only a test case of one, but overheating due to loss of coolant is a good way to seize an engine!

There is nothing wrong with the 1.2VVT Fiat Fire engine they are just lacking of owner maintenance they can clear if looked after properly as they are very simple 250,000 miles. if you should require a more simple engine get a 1.1 Panda with the none interference engine 👍

Thanks for sharing Alan , many years ago we had a Panda with similar issues to this. The coolant level dropped a couple of times & the following morning it was dragging like this . like you we went for a lower miles replacement. Out of idle curiosity I kept stipping it until the problem revealed itself. As soon as I unbolted the oil pump the engine reovolved smoothly again. I stripped the oil pump & it was full of metal fragmemts & looking down into the sump it was obvious that water was present in the oil ; not much but enough to kill off the oil pump 🙄
@marinusapeldoorn66317 ай бұрын
Ever found out where the water came from?
@asdeaff7 ай бұрын
@@marinusapeldoorn6631 I assumed it was either a cracked cylinder head or leaking head gasket ; the milage was reasonably high around 180k . If anyone on here is from the south, I`ve recently heard my favourite breaker GR Harris in southbourne is ceasing trading

have you not got a vacuum filler for the coolant? could be a good thing to invest in to make bleeding the coolant easier great video btw!
@michaeljohnson10067 ай бұрын
I had to use a four pint milk bottle with the bottom cut off, some a electric tape to make it fit to the top of the coolant tank. To give me enough height in the water to bleed it on an audi A6 after i did a cambelt.
@lewismatthew27477 ай бұрын
These engine are actually surprisingly rebost. Coolant system is exactly the same on the mk2 punto, utter nightmare to bleed. By the time the Grande Punto was launched bleeding was much easier, but the 500 and Ka took a step backwards to the mk2 punto coolant system design. Top tip is to raise the front of the car which helps the bleeding process a lot. Give the car a few long runs with heater on full, bleed again and keep topping up coolant as there will be more air pockets trapped.

Slow cranking - Fiats in this era are notorious for bad earth straps/negatively battery cables, it goes from negative terminal to chassis and towards the gearbox, and just break. Not the case here of course, just reminded me of this. Oh and it's easy to test it - jumper cable from negative terminal to engine... Cheaper than a new battery or starter

That engine had been overheated and seized, rusty water stains tell the tale. With the problems you were getting with the bleeding did you check the radiator flow which may have been the cause of the original overheating and might cause reoccurrence.
