Highly recommended the MK4, I am on my 3rd 2.0 tdci, the most reliable trouble free cars I've come across in a modern car, they surpass 250K easily as long as serviced on time. I am a mechanic in a large diagnostic garage and rarely see these in for repairs, biggest failing is wiring loom that runs across the front panel near ECU will corrode, but is easily rectified, my advice is to leave the 1.6 and 1.8 diesel alone 2.0 tdci is bombproof.

@@davehgpfc8683 only issues we really see relating to dpf are the vac pipes splitting due to heat from exhaust, otherwise it's the most reliable dpf system going, I have done 163k I'n my car and replaced them once, generally does a regeneration around 500 miles mark

Brilliant video! Informative, funny and well made. I've got a 2013 Mondeo Titanium X and love the car, its comfy, economical and (touch wood) has been utterly reliable from day one. I like the spec with voice control and converse + dash. The only issue I've ever had is the DAB radio has freaked out twice and refused to lock onto a station but removing the battery terminal for an hour has cleared the fault. So far the car has been faultless and she's just about to hit the big 100K..

I have a 2014 (64 plate) Titanium X Business Edition 2.0 TDCi Estate with 125,000+ miles on. Bought 2nd hand, it's an ex-lease car with full main dealer service history. [If it needed a new bulb fitting, main dealer did it] Being a higher end, I guess it was only one or two drivers, rather than a pool car. Since I bought it, I have had the cam belts, idlers and water pump changed (circa 120,000 miles) and nothing else beyond normal service/tyres. Failed it's most recent M.o.T. test for n/s headlight alignment, following a minor bump to that side. Otherwise, perfect. Tows my caravan to Dorset or Scotland and, does 30m.p.g. whilst doing so! 50-60mpg is about the norm, without the caravan. A similar *prestige* marque has less space etc and, costs more.

I bought a 2013 very low mileage Titanium X sport last year from a main Ford dealer, its the 163bhp 2.0 diesel and returns 650 miles per tank. It has now got 30k on the clock and has had the rear bushes and disc pads replaced (with genuine Ford parts). I had a 130 bhp Mk3.5 for about 7 years and had to spend lots on it, all the usual power steering racks, turbo VVR, injectors, EGR, DMF etc, so was a little concerned about buying the Mk4.5 but this video has given me a lot of satisfaction. If anyone knows the pitfalls and successes of a car its gonna be you taxi men and you obviously know the boot from the bonnet on these cars! Keep up the good work and keep those honest reviews available to guys like us!!!

I have had my 2009 mk4 mondeo, 1.8tdci since last July. I have put 8,000km since I got it (not crazy mileage, I know) and it has been fine. No issues. Now, when I purchased the car I had the wetbelt replaced with a timing chain kit, new top timing belt and new aux belt. I gave it a good service too, all filters and oil etc. They are a nice car to drive and are really solid on the road.

I just bought a 2.2 titanium-x sport...what a car, 105k miles and the thing looks and performs like it's just been driven out the showroom, the quality is astonishing, I recommend you give the DPF a very, very good clean so it never gets dirty again as it were :) then with a good remap it transforms it into a very reliable, more economical missile. However with the latest legislation a friendly MOT tester is a must.

How do you clean the DPF mate? You mean to take it down and jet wash the thing or do a regen? There's a Mondeo titanium x sport I've been watching on eBay but a bit worried about the injectors since it's about 150,000 miles the mileage. Have you had problems with the car going into limp mode and stuff? Thx

I bought a 2010 Titanium X, high miler ex-company car. I have driven it across europe, Ireland, even to Malta. Battery died in Malta heat. Only other problems was the AC compressor wouldn't switch on - common break issue in the lilac control wire from the radiator fan back to the ECU. I think I have a shocker out, not sure which atm. I have an engine warning light for the DPF and I get water build up in the spare wheel housing But... I don't know why, but I love the hell out of this car - it just goes.... Oh and 56mpg rocks on a car with 168,000 on the clock.

Haha love this video. Just been out and upgraded from a Mk3 2.0 tdci zetec to a 63 plate 2.0 161 titanium X business edition today. The car had 1 owner and serviced every 12500 miles. It drives beautifully and is night and day above the mk3. 2 things I cant get used to- 1. no rattles or rocking on idle (cant even hear the engine) and 2. there is no key to take out now. Every time I finish driving it's just not there. The power delivery is smooth and not served in a turbo lump, its quiet and just a joy to drive. Shame its took me nearly 3 months to find the right one. There aren't loads for sale and I can see why.

I look after a taxi fleet myself and I'm forever changing coil springs on the mk4. What i will also say is if the radiator flaps fall apart it can stop regens. Also behind the bumper on the drivers side is the powers steering pump and the low presure pump is mm from the bumper so a slight bump can snap it. Also if that vaporizer on the exhaust if it dose get blocked will cause failed regens and as you probably know taxi drivers don't stop when they have issues they just keep going next thing the flexi on the cat pops. Another thing is to teach the driver to take the food away from the clutch when not in use as even having your foot resting on the peddle will slightly engage the thrust bearing and cook the seel in the concentric.
@alan4x
@alan4x 6 жыл бұрын
hi, thanks for your comments, i have been lucky then, never had a single coil spring on a mk4 break although the mk3 were always breaking, and never had power steering pipe snapped or even exhaust flexi break but have changed countless fuel vaporisers with cars in permanent limp mode, oh and yeah there are a few annoying drivers that just can't keep their left foot off the clutch lol
@TonyTony-xj6uv
@TonyTony-xj6uv 6 жыл бұрын
@@alan4x to be fair we have a lot of pothole and speed bumps here. And the power steering pipe only brakes if you bash the bumper because the later mk4 had the electric p/steering pump right bumper. And wait till you have to do a clutch and fly on the mk5 with the 2 bellhouse bolts behind the DPF 😡

My company car was a Mk IV Mondeo and did 193,000 miles without missing a beat. That is, apart from a snapped bonnet release cable which the RAC guy who fixed it reckoned was a common fault due to water ingress. The other thing that stuck in my mind about the Mk IV was that our fleet manager wished that all the company directors would use Mondeo’s instead of their Audi’s, BMW’s and Mercedes because his analysis of running costs was telling him the maintenance costs of these ‘status’ vehicles was literally 4 times that of a Mondeo. Anyway, I was so impressed with my Mk IV company car that when I retired early in 2013 I bought myself a 2.0 Lt diesel Mk IV Mondeo estate, which has done 83,000 miles and not missed a beat. The problem I’ve now got is what would I replace it with. By all accounts the Mk V is not as engaging to drive nor as reliable, plus the world is now anti diesel. But I visit Scotland 3 or 4 times a year so electric is out of the question and modern diesels are still more frugal than petrol 🤷‍♂️.

Yup, my Mk 4 Titanium, 2.0 petrol, manual - at 48,000 miles six years ago. Just broken 100,000 and it has never missed a beat. Tyres and regular servicing (and a fuel leak last year which was easily fixed by a very good mechanic) is all I've had to worry about. I've taken it to Europe and use it every day for my commute. It's just a fantastic car to drive. It really, really was the design sweet spot for this car. I'll miss it when I finally have to give it up. I'm just not sure about the Mk5. Looks good, but they've messed up the steering and I reckon it's underpowered.

Currently have a 2008 Mondeo Titanium X estate 1.8 TDCI. I bought it back in 2018 so nearly 5 years in may 2023. I bought it to replace a 2016 Nissan qashqai I had from new (or should I say cash cow). I literally threw the keys back at Nissan. it was riddled with electrical problems 16 trips to the garage in 18 months :( . Since having this Mondeo I have driven decent amount of milage with my business, filled with my music equipment and all manner of things fully laden, driven to Greece and back thee times from the uk, and It has been the best car ever. built like a tank, and the only major expense I had was a new clutch and dMF at 150k on the dot which cost me just under £600. the timing belt was done by the garage when I bought it on just over 100K, and all I have had to do is put tyres on it and the usual service. absolutely amazing car. currently on nearly 170k

One snag though: owner said they've changed to oil every 12000 miles instead of the 6000 I would have been happier with. They've used it mostly as a highway commuter though, so I'm a bit on the fence. Anybody who's owned one of these can give me a bit of advice? Apart from the oil change, the car looks great, no smoke from exhaust, fluid levels are as they should be, haven't heard any rattles from the engine, cam-belt was recently replaced.

Iv got mk3 mondeo 2001 2.0 petrol and I have considered a mk4 But unlike the diesel mk3 the petrols seem to be ridiculously reliable with nothing pricey to repair no pumps injectors dual mass flywheel to worry about. I actually spoke to taxi driver that had a mk3 2.0 petrol sold it only because it was over 200k and bought a mk4 diesel within 2 weeks of owning had to replace the injectors. I’m also not convinced it’s a prettier car to be honest. But the mk5 is certainly a good looking motor. I’ll maybe just hold on to the old girl

I got a mark 4 Ford Mondeo which is a 57 plate. I bought it in 2008 at 170,000 miles and l immediately did a cam belt change due to the high mileage, and since the car purchasing the car, i have not had a single mechanical issue apart from minor servicing (glow plug change, old and air filter change) and battery change. The car is very highly reliable, and even though I tend to do motorway miles often, l have never had a breakdown or used my RAC recovery service. However, I had recently been tempted to upgrade to the MK5 Mondeo because they are very nice looking and very large, even larger than the MK4. The only problem is that they are quite expensive, and even ones with high mileage commonly on the 65 plate go for around £5,000 plus. I saw a very nice MK5, a 65 plate, recently going for £5,300, which was the cheapest MK5 I could find. The problem is that it has done 167,000 miles. It's been sold by a car dealer who said it used to be a company car with 1 previous owner. The car comes with 6 months warranty. Do you think l should take a risk to buy the car? I watched your one of your videos which was titled " is the MK5 worth the upgrade". Having watched your video of what can go wrong with MK5 mechanically, l am wondering if l should take the risk. The dealer told me that the MK5 had a dual mass fly wheel change, gearbox change and cam belt change. Please l urgently need your advice. The dealer is also ready to offer me a fair sum on my current MK4 Mondeo.I got a mark 4 Ford Mondeo which is a 57 plate. I have a MK4 2011 Titanium 2.0 TDCi which I bought in July 2012 with 8000 miles and never had any issues until last July year when 2 fuel injectors, with too much fuel return, kept causing it to go into limp mode. Figuring I was unlucky enough to have a bad batch, I had my local Ford dealer replace all 4 injectors. Then, last month, one arm of #1 fuel injector clamp/bracket snapped, causing the injector to pop out. Just after christmas, I noticed #3 injector was chuffing, tightened the bolt holding the clamp/bracket, which reduced the chuffing, and ordered a set of seals (they only come in 4's) and the following day both arms of the fuel injector clamp/bracket for #2 injector had snapped off. WTF?!?! Figuring what the chances of this happening, I called the Ford Dealer who did the injector replacement, and they just shrugged it off as being out of 1 year warranty for their work, refusing to accept any possibility that it was their workmanship/parts that could have anything to do with these faults. So I took my Mondeo to my local garage to replace the #2 fuel bracket and all 4 injector seals, and they have just told me that all the other 3 fuel injector brackets are cracked (i.e. including the one I replaced last month). Has anyone every encountered or even heard of this happening, because it has my local garage and myself stumped, and the Ford dealer who did the work want £105 just to take a look. Any ideas/clues appreciated. Great video BTW!

Love my 2011 163PS Titanium MK4.5 Mondeo. Never had any major issues. If I was to gripe, it would be the diesel filter is a pain to change also the cabin filter. And changing a front headlight bulb isn't that straight forward, apart from that its the most reliable car I have ever driven.

Hi Alan, thanks for the informative review. I have a 1.6 ecoboost '12 Mondeo and so far for the last 5 years didn't have any problem with it ( bought at 40k). Now on 92 k miles and need to replace rear arm trailing bushes, both front track rod ends and a front wheel bearing. Also one of the rear right hand side number plate light is burnt. When trying to replace it there seems to be a very short wire lenght so the whole module doesn't come out. The left hands side one comes out no problem. I can get the other bites sorted for my MOT sorted but stuck on this bad design. Wondering if you have noticed the same issue on the MK4. Thanks and keep posting them videos.

Hi! I bought two months ago a mondeo mk4 turnier with 2.0 tdci 140 bhp from 2011. It has run over 315 thousand km on the clock. I start to have a several problems with it. First: it comes some strange metal sound when I drove on bad roads, and it is only then. Second problem is brakes on the backside. It sounds like old train, when I press the pedal. And last thing is some strange vibration on the motor, which I can feel when I sit in the car. It's show up only sometimes and for a short time but anyway it doesn't sounds right. Otherwise I'm really glad with the car, specially when I drive on the motorway. Greetings from Denmark 🙂

Update: I now have a mk4 2.0 PETROL! Zetec, 1 previous owner and that was a female doctor and the car has full service history. It's a super quiet engine and I average 34.5mpg. Miles better than the mk3, the ride is firm with no rattles and is built solid. Yes it's a heavier car but has virtually no roll going into the corners and the steering is precise with absolute no play. Best car I've owned so far. Mind you I've had quite a few sheds in the past but this mk4 ain't one of them.....

I'm thinking of getting the mk4 2.0 petrol in zetec trim. 35.8 mpg is what I'm currently getting with my mk3 ghia x but some big bills are coming up, clutch and a replacement gearbox because the main bearing is rumbling so I shall call it quits and bag a low miler. Too many things to go wrong with a tdci. Still has the same problems as the old mk3 diesel as regards to injector pump, egr valves clogging as well as stuffed dpf's. They're good when if you can buy a really low miler at sensible money but my funds are limited. If I want extra mpg I'll invest in an lpg system.
