Thanks DR. Rick this video save me a lot of $$. Re-installing the pannel is not easy. Here a little trick I applied on my 2019 volt. On the top of the door pannel your have 5 litles metals clip that maintain the top of the pannel and the rubber trim. Remove all of the them from the door pannel cover and install them immediatly on the door then put the rubber in. Finally make sure your door lock pin is at the right place and put the pannel back in place. This must go straight in, make sure to clip the top section, your 5 metals clips first and then apply the pressure on the one at the bottom. This is probably that way it is done at the factory, otherwhise they would loose too much time !

Thank you so much for the tip about the 5 metal clips. I was trying to put the panel back on without doing that and could not get the panel back on. You save me a trip to the dealer.

Your advice to remove the metal clips from the door panel is absolutely necessary. I tried for hours before I did this on my 2019 Chevy Bolt. The front driver's panel went in easily after switching the clips from the interior panel to the door frame. In the future, I may pry the panel away from the door frame instead of lifting the panel up to detach the door panel from the door frame.

Thanks Dr. Rick. This really made things much easier. A couple of comments: 1) I was able to replace the mirror by merely loosening the door panel around the edges, and 2) the reason I did it this way was because there was something near the door handle that kept me from lifting the door panel! Thanks again!

Dude thank you so much for posting this!! Yep chevy wanted near one thousand dollars. I was hesitant to do the repair myself for fear of causing damage to the interior. I'll be buying a replacement mirror and attempting this repair with your video as a guide. I will post back once I have tried.

A few of the plastic snaps that hold the side door panel either cracked or the square peg game out of the door, rather than the flanged peg coming out of the siding. However, despite the slight mishaps and a little bulge at the edge of my door now, I was able to replace the side mirror by following your video. Thank you so much, you gave me the confidence to attempt this repair myself and basically saved me hundreds of dollars!

@@philquantum8200 I'm glad you were able to tackle this on your own, and that the video helped! If those plastic clips that were damaged give you any issues, they run about $5 bucks for a replacement set from Chevy.

Thank you so much Dr. Rick!! Your instructions has saved me $250 that Chevrolet quoted me for putting the mirror assembly on/off. Personally, I've found that just loosening the trim around the edges is enough to get access to the last 3 bolts (you really don't need to take the trim off completely, as long as 2 of the clips are attached the trim easily pops back no problemo). In short to perform the installation you need hex 7mm bolt and hex 10 mm bolt and Drill (for faster screwing).

If you need to replace the cover, OR reuse it on a new base, remove the cover by prying on the bottom edge closest to the window. Pry toward the window just a bit, maybe 1/16th of an inch, or you will break some guide pins in the cover. Continue prying around/along the bottom edge of the cover using a plastic spudger until the cover pops off.

How did you find a mirror WITH the proper color cover? All I can find is with primed covers. Thanks for the video!

The one I added was actually just a primed cover also. It was slightly different from the gloss black on the other side, but never bothered me enough to warrant the time and costs to paint it.

Do you know if a Gen 1 Mirror set with Turn Signal on the outer side of the mirror will fit a Gen 2? I know it would be a wiring change to get the turn signal to function, but I think it was a mistake that the left that features off of the Gen 2's.

Do you have any tips on just replacing the mirror cover? I have similar damage on my passenger mirror but it is only the top piece

Should just pop right off. I don't think the cover is attached using screws.

Sorry I missed this comment at the time. Responding now, in the event anyone else runs into the same issue in the future. Snapping the door trim back into place was probably the hardest part for me (due in part bc i had to do it twice after not properly seating the door lock the first time) but I found it easiest when dropping the door trim down, then applying pressure by pushing in directly on the top of the trim to get the clips to snap back down into place. What solution ended up working best for you?

@@FestiveScholar thanks to your video, removing plastic trim was easy. Installing it back was a real pain in the back. After the first attempt everything looked good, except a small misalignment. I could see that rubber seal sits in a bit weird angle... Using a flashlight I found out that half of the metal hooks went too far or didn't get through the "pockets" at all. So I removed it again and with help of my father I had to align every hook/clip, one by one. Impossible to do without small and bright flashlight... It is possible that you didn't align all of them OR you were very lucky to get it done in one shot :) I had to do this to all 4 doors and I had this problem on every damn door. Horrible design.
