Replacing a Crankshaft Position Sensor (Mini Cooper R55/R56)

I love my 2012 R56 MCS. A lot of the maintenance and parts replacement is very doable at home. That being said, it is prone to issues. Whenever I spot another Mini broken down on the side of the road I joke that it is in its natural habitat.

You have that right, I shot a picture of ours in the dealer service lane and noted that as a natural habitat :) Finally hit an item I could not fix on my own, the fuel pump relay which was built into a programable fuse box. UGGG

I have worked on all brands of cars, foreign and domestic for over 60 years, and my 2010 Mini is the biggest piece of crap ever, and BMW does'nt do anything to make it easier to work on. The wiring diagrams and schematics are pure crap!!! 🤬🤬😡🤬💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

To show and accurate location of where the sensor is they should show a drawing of where it is first.

I had a problem eith the low pressure fuel pump not pumping abd my analyzer said the crank position sendor could be the pronlem, Does that sound rational?

It looks like it is underneath the car near the exhaust. Did you see that woven cylinder thing? Look under your car and yours will be the same.

Right near engine/trans mating point towards rear of car on bottom. That just near where the axle goes in the transmission

My 02 Non-super charged ran fine to the store and I come out it started then died and now it cranks but wont start. Fuel pump is working. Looks like ill be doing Crankshaft position sensor next.

Replace oil pan on 2015 mini copper as it had whole in it and centers shut it down . Now won't start. Help I'm at a loss.

If one does almost any work or remove any part from any part of these cars, you will have to clear coat any codes and possibly reprogram the computer!! What a piece of junk!!!

I need to replace this on an R60 Countryman All4. I know its the same engine, but is the replacement procedure the same, or do I need to remove the bevel gear or other AWD components to get to the sensor?

Thanks for the feedback, this is in a really tough position to film. There were so many failures with this car we actually got rid of it. My suggestion would be the same, run, the problems will never end! If this did not help you maybe you should just take your car to a professional.
