Purchased from eBay, this Gameboy Color comes in pretty good condition except for the fact that the speaker does not work.
If you get audio through some headphones, then the sound chip is working fine, then you can simply replace the speaker as I do.
You can buy speakers here (UK):

Do you know if you can use a replacement speaker from a original gameboy in the gameboy color? I have spare parts from a original gameboy and my speaker stopped working in my color

How hot must soldering iron be to disconnect / reconnect speakers?
@TheRetroStation
@TheRetroStation 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! Hot enough to melt solder, which... could be anywhere from 100c to 450c. Best thing to do is just set to a low temp, say 150 and if it takes too long to melt (more than 3-5 seconds) then up the temperature. Also, old solder can be a pain, so introducing new, fresh solder to old solder will help massively.

Sounds like the capacitor is failing - might be worth replacing the capacitor C38 (which replacing capacitors is recommended regardless as these consoles are so old now) if you’re UK based I sell capacitor kits on my website now.

@@TheRetroStation I'm having the same exact issue right now. Sorry for my ignorance, but is that a separate remedy from replacing the speaker like you did in this video? Would that take care of the issue, or does it go deeper than that potentially? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I had replaced my speaker but I'm hearing a whining noise over the sound. Is there a way to fix that?
@TheRetroStation

So I think that might be the buzz/hum from the gameboy itself, you can find some de-hum/de-noise kits online from whatever your preferred Gameboy Mod supplier is.

You will need a soldering iron to connect the speaker wire back to the motherboard

@@TheRetroStation thank you, i researched it and found some answers because i've never seen a video on how to repair detached wires from the gameboy circuit board.. 🌻🌻

So I was swapping my dead speaker on my gameboy pocket yesterday and as I was removing the wires from the motherboard, one of the wires snapped in the hole that the wire is supposed to thread through. I’ve tried everything I could to get the wire out, but it’s just stuck in there. I’ve ordered soldering wick and a solder sucker to see if that will hopefully help. Anyone else have any ideas on what I could do to get that little piece of wire out?
@TheRetroStation

If you have some metal tweezers you could heat up the solder and then pull out the wire with the tweezers, otherwise solder wick will work fine. Just gotta get rid of the solder and it should come out with the solder or just drop out when there isn’t enough solder to hold it in the hole.

@@TheRetroStation Yeah, I’ve tried the tweezer method and that’s what mainly jammed the wire in the hole. But thanks for the help! My solder wick should be coming soon and I’m hoping it will help out

@@lemonduckz If your solder wick doesn't work well; dip it in flux. Good wick should have built in flux, but the cheaper stuff might not have it, and it makes a big difference.
