Honestly when i have a gameboy that doesn't turn on the first thing i always do is inspect the battery contacts and the second thing clean the on/off switch without even testing it with the multimeter most of the time that fixes any issue with gameboys just a good clean, gameboys are just an amazing quality systems

Yeah, funny enough most consoles I receive are never really truly broken, just extremely dirty!

If this is anything like the GBA it would probably be better to remove that top shielding on the power switch to clean the contacts inside directly. I had a GBA where I could clean it from the outside like that and get it working, but the problem would come back in a few days because it was still pretty dirty inside.

Yes this is a good point, removing the shielding would be a more thorough cleaning as you pointed out. I can probably do this in future videos to showcase that type of repair.

"These look fine" FYI those surface mount caps don't swell and show their age like top vented caps, I chased a short to ground for a whole day and it ended up being the bottom right cap which looked perfectly fine. Capacitor kits for these cost $3, they should be done regardless of if it's working or not.

Yeah, you're definitely not wrong. It seems more common in GBC and GBA's where caps tend to be worn without any visual indication.

Question my gameboy color wont turn on but the red light on the left lights up but the screen would never turn on or show anything ?

Has it been opened before? If so I would start by checking the ribbon cable and making sure the pins are clean and making proper contact.

Similar problem for me. Just bought a GBC from eBay and the screen is gone (turns on and sound is good, but can barely make out anything on the screen). My first thought is to check the ribbon cable contacts and clean them with IPA. Probably worse case scenario is it’s a capacitor blown or the screen is indeed dead. But I’ve got loads of spare boards and screens so shouldn’t take too long to fix.
