I need order one Cylinder lock

So you would just take the handle off - replace the cylinder and put the door handle back on

I purchased an Anderson A-series sliding door and it did not have an outside key assembly. I ordered one and installed it. If you lock it, it cannot be unlocked from the inside. Basically, it's a death trap. The key assembly was expensive and we just use it to unlock the door from outside because locking it from outside would be too dangerous. I tried to get support from Anderson but, they will not help. Basically, you get to talk to some high school kid on the phone that might want to help you but, cannot. I get angry every time I see an Anderson commercial on TV. I'll never buy another Anderson product and I make sure no one I know will either.

I know it’s a month later and you have probably figured out how to fix your lock. If you haven’t……. Well you have probably assembled/installed it incorrectly. Not blaming you …… these Anderson locks are crap. I have had 2 of these Anderson sliding doors over the past 20 years. I have had to replace either the whole lock or most of the internal components 5 times. They are very poorly made and frustrating to install. It seems to be hit and miss if you can get it to work properly. My usual problem is the reverse of yours. I can operate the lock from inside but not outside. You really have to follow the instructions very closely or the lock will not work. It seems very odd that you cannot unlock from the inside…… it must be assembled wrong. My issue is getting the key to operate the latch from the outside. Anyway…… just want to vent on Anderson……… they have been using the same inferior lock mechanism for over 20 years. I don’t understand how they can’t get this right over all this time. Everyone I have talked to over the years has the same complaints about the locks. I have a contractor friend who has installed many of them and he says everyone ends up being a problem. Unfortunately it seems to be a problem to find a sliding door from a different manufacturer who makes a sliding door with an exterior lock.

@@Peter-gi3re I wonder if it's possible to replace the cylinder itself with a Kwikset cylinder? I feel like some of the issues I have with this damn Andersen door is the cylinder they use... It'd at least be better if I could key it to match the rest of my exterior doors.

Thank you for your reply. I have exactly the same issue on my house I bought. No one else seems to understand it. I agree 100%. If someone died because of this lock it would be a huge lawsuit. Very unsafe. Guess I’ll just not lock from outside and will go out another door when leaving for work.

If you lock it from the inside, at least you can get in from outside. I've tried changing the timing of the lock gears to every tooth on the damn thing. It either doesn't work at all or you can't unlock it from the inside, once locked from the outside. I would say that the door latching mechanism is very nice, and well made. It's just the lock that's a piece of crap. If Anderson had even tried to help resolve the issue I would feel much better about their company. I would be ashamed to work for them.

Glad to see im not the only one going thru this pain. I've installed everything correctly with the sharpest eye on detail, and it still does not allow me to unlock the door from the inside after i have locked it from the outside with a key. However when I simply slide the key into the cylinder and then operate the thumb latch, it will fully lock and unlock on the inside of the door. It's as if the key must be in the cylinder against the pins for the lock to function, when in reality how am I supposed to leave the key in it at all times...obviously defeats the purpose

I wonder if anyone will read this comment and realize how much emotional pain I’m in right now

I did, don’t buy an Anderson lock off Amazon, that’s where they sell the defective piece of crap
