I'm trying to help someone in this situation: 1) US passport misplaced, 2) Naturalized citizen 3) all supporting documents birth certificate, etc is lost in a storage unit sale 4) only thing in possession is social security card and state drivers license (from before the new rules when people did not have to show 6 point ID proving citizenship) and some random documents that show childhood name (before 1) legal name change & 2) marriage name change) 5) person became a naturalized citizen when still a minor and the parent's documents have been lost, as well, so they have nothing to prove they are a citizen. ---- How do they start on the procedure to get new passport as well as other documents?

2021 I lost my passport and I just got it replaced. I asked for everything to be expedited and overnighted. My trip out of country is 11/20/21. Here is the timeline: 10/3/21- Decided to go on trip out of country. 10/10/21- Scheduled passport appointment at nearest post office. 10/13/21- Passport appointment (closest/soonest appointment 45 minutes away). Early November received confirmation that passport approved. 11/4/21- New passport delivered. This all took place in North Carolina, USA. This video was spot on and very helpful. My passport was stolen in Costa Rica. Went to the u.s. embassy for the entire day, got an emergency replacement. (Had a printed copy of it) but did not report a police report, they gave me a huge deal about it. I thought I was going to have to postpone my travels back to the us. They eventually gave me a temp. Incorrect information on it, "male". I've been told since returning that I would have to go through the whole process again, and pay extra on top of the whole application.

One question though, can I submit form DS-11 and DS-64 at the same time, I'm going to a post office this week with an application for a new passport but a little worried it's going to be cancelled since I'm going to be submitting DS-64 even though my last passport is expired. You need to prove U.S. citizenship (such as a birth or naturalization certificate) and have a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license or military ID) for photo identification. I used a certified copy of my birth certificate for U.S. citizenship proof and my driver's license for my photo identification. You must apply in person at a Passport Acceptance Facility. It is ran by the U.S. Postal Service. The person helping you with your passport application will make a copy of your government-issued photo ID. Your certified copy of your birth certificate or naturalization certificate will be mailed with your application and mailed back to you.

@@user-tb8mv2fu2d You need to bring current passport photos to your appointment. I went to CVS. I had a 40% off coupon through their ExtraCare card and only spent $8.99 before tax. They are currently $16.99 at CVS and $15.99 at Walgreens. At both places, someone will take your photo and ensure they are compliant. Good luck!

OK but what about after you get your emergency passport, make it home, then need to swap it out for a real one? What's the steps there? Official instructions are really vague and unclear.

Hi Maneesha, I recently had to get an emergency passport at the US Embassy in Costa Rica. They issued me one the same day so I could make my flight back home to the US. The emergency passport is good for one year. My question is, can I use the emergency passport they gave me to go back to Costa Rica or is it only good to get me back home? Why don't consulates accept Enhanced NYS drivers License as proof of citizenship when NYS says Enhanced Driver's Licenses are indeed proof of citizenship? I'm going through a bunch of #-@!! at Merida MX consulate for stolen US Passport, fmm, 12000 pesos, medical card, cell phone and Oakley sunglasses. MX started really cracking down on tourists overstaying and or not carrying original documents on your person. Photos don't cut it down here anymore and can be jailed. 3 weeks after I started doing that, I get robbed... 😩

What if you need urgent passport and then you don't have the copy of the naturalization certificate how is that? Is that acceptable?

If you were previously issued a Passport you can pay another $150 on top of Passport fees for a file search. Otherwise you would need a new naturalization cert.

I filed N-565 for my lost naturalization certificate online and same day i mailed all my supporting documents such as my current U.S passport to their office in Nebraska August 2nd 2022. I went for my biometric finger print appointment in August 22. As of now my case status " case been actively reviewed Our records show nothing is outstanding at this time" My question is does anyone know when my original documents(supporting documents) mailed to uscis will returned back to me after my biometric finger print. If he has a naturalization certificate he can use that or he can do a file search. It is an additional $150 on top of passport fees but that is where they can look at his passport record and use that for proof of citizenship. You can use a drivers license, state ID card or 2 forms of secondary ID for the proof of ID.

Once it's reported lost it becomes invalid. It will help you get a replacement though without having to provide Birth Cert. for proof of Citizenship.
