Just found this video. I got the Aliexpress special as well, and I decided to go for a Zippo wick (with the copper wire) and couldn't figure out how to get the flint out. This helped a lot, thank you

Thanks for this awesome hint! by way of giving back, There’s a bit of a trick with those matches. The wick won’t burn until the fuel that’s in the wick burns. So if you think you’re going to have to have it burning for a while, it might be worth your while to do whatever you have to do, and then just let it sit back in the fluid again before relighting.

I'll have to do this with mine but mine also seems to have a little bit of wire wrapped around the wick so that'll be an interesting challenge to deal with since I don't know how much is wrapped.

I have an antique one that I can’t figure out how to get the metal insert out of. It needs the wick replaced because it is falling apart, but I can’t get the metal part out of the center. Any ideas? Do the antique ones not come out?

are matches expensive seems labor intensive, i think people would save more just packing they're lunches etc no time for this.

I am looking for another wick for this. This is closer to a zippo than a match. For camping purposes you can go through a entire pack of matches when it is windy. These hold up better. Unfortunately the ceramic fiber is not holding up over a longer period. Is this a big money saving tactic? Of course not. Sometimes you need to try things and experiment just becauso it is fun. I don't think .88 cents was a tremendous amount to do this with. Now packing lunches is a GREAT way to save money day to day. In fact i dehydrated up my low fat vegan meals well in advance so I am ready to go camping... on the cheap. :) I will be doing vids on saving money very very soon.
