Replacing a TOYOTA HILUX Gear Shift Bush

This is a quick tutorial on how to replace a toyota hilux shifter boot.
This Vehicle is a 2001 Toyota Hilux 2.7L Petrol 5 speed manual.

He appeared to push the metal cap straight onto the seal. That seal should fit underneath the bayonet lugs that were not visible, as the seal was inserted on top of them. Those lugs or pins are what the metal cap locks onto.

Looks like you need to take all the plastic coating off the gear stick. That would allow for replacing the spring and bayonet retainer too.

Unfortunately he has not shown the locator pins were intact inside the housing that’s why the shifter was twisting I’d say wrong bits replaced and that gear stick would still rotate

It doesnt rotate. I dont think i ever replaced the h pattern sleeve. Im not sure why. I cant remember. Still daily the ute and shifter feels brand new

@@billyjackreid1154 I eventually pulled the gear stick apart, in other words destroyed the rubber vulcanising , anyway I replaced the shifter lock and used a sikaflex product to replace the vulcanising, that was 2 months back , the shift is beautiful. , good luck.

I don´t think you can without destrying the rubber connecting the two parts.
