After owning a BMW K100RS, an R90S and an R1100Gs I can only conclude the BMW design and build their motorcycles around a battery. Still brilliant bikes though.

I'm thinking of a '96 RT 1100 I owned - and the battery being in under the bodywork under the fuel tank, more or less. What a pain in the pants to get at.

As far as I can tell, it will be a very hard law to enforce. Great job on buying ahead of time!

I use a torque wrench when I do the service on my 2009 RT and I always replace washers and orings. The only difference is the oil and filter. I use Mahle for oil/air and Mobil 1 for oil. Mahle makes the filters for BMW from what I understand. If it was under warranty I'd use BMW stuff. The airbox and battery look the same as my old RT. The weather on this video is like what I saw last week in Seattle.

I have the same torque wrench. Snap is very proud. It does more than the ordinary torque wrench though. Mine was 425

You think the fuel pump went south in the War Wagon? Had that happen on an old work car. Pulled into a convenience store, came out, No Go. Worst part, had just filled the tank. What a pain to get that tank down to change the pump.

Wow! That's a bummer about the R9T battery charging and replacement process. Kind of like my R1200RT air filter replacement. Question, At what mileage am I supposed to flush my coolant on the R1200RT? I couldn't find it in the manual. Thanks.

Hi Shawn, I am going to have the same problem when I get to that fateful day. I hope my walls will be strong enough to hang all the tools on after 40 odd years of amassing an assortment of odds and sods, some I may have only used a couple of times but will never part with. What's the best way to correspond with you about some technical questions concerning my spyder.

Interesting, when I bought my r nine t, my dealer installed a pigtail for a battery tender and I have been using it with a battery tender. Is that a bad thing? I’ve been doing it for the 3 years I have owned it with no problems. Thanks in advance.

Shawn I need two front tires for my 2014 STS and I was wondering what tires you recommend me putting on the bike, I had seen one of your videos about some tires that you put on that you really liked and I remember that you liked the way they sounded, I was wondering if you could let me know which model and brand they are is so I can have them installed thanks again I appreciate it . Thanks PS I love you Videos Frank

Hi Shawn, thanks for the info on the battery. I have a question for you when a battery fails the BMW test. I took your old buddy 2020 R1250 GSA demo to my local BMW dealer last Saturday for the annual service. Oil change plus brake fluid flush and checklist just like you described. I was surprised that they recommended that it needs a new battery since you always used the optimate and I do too. Maybe I should have them double check it? The bike starts up just fine and runs like a dream. My wife said I should just get the new battery and be done with it. I showed the service manager your video on the R9T with the charger and he said they have three of those chargers at his shop. They cost something like 2.6k. I just think the battery should last more than three years myself especially when the charger is used. Oh well, I should just take the good with the bad. Overall, the bike is fantastic and I could not be happier.👊👍🏻

Gun control is the best gun sales tool there is.. for a while anyway. Happened here in California. They'd pass a new law that would kick in next year, gun sales could go nuts. Eventually though they start banning entire groups and classes of things. We got the "handgun roster" which pretty much means we can't buy a handgun released in the last decade now. I'm pretty sure California is the only reason Glock still makes Gen 3 pistols.

Too much effort just to replace a battery! And it probably doesn't even come close to paying for all the time. Peace and love.
