Thank you. Helpful tip to everyone that you didn't say in the video. Once any part is replaced, if possible, test out the new part before completely reassembling the vehicle. If new part is defective or connections are not completely together this will save time. Again thanks for the video.

Man, had to replace license plate lights due to corrosion and couldn't find anywhere how to do do it. Turns out had to replace the whole assembly wiring for plate light... Dealer wanted 360 plus labor to fix it! Came across this video which is basically similar to what I needed to do instead of camera but paid 180 for harness and did it myself. Saved me well over 300. Thanks a bunch hope this message finds you.

I had the same situation. LED license plate lights went out. Learned that the factory design is failing due to water damage, thus only a complete wiring and lights solution is for sale from Jeep. I would expect that the performance of the camera would be impacted by the water damage. Thanks for this post and the comments. Very helpful.

This was very helpful, thank you! 🙏Just a note to anyone who wants to take the upper portion off too, be ware that the two vertical clips on each side are cross car and you need to pull the trim inboard and not rearward. You could risk braking the tabs that hold the clips if you pull straight back.

Thanks for the great video! I had fogging inside the camera after moving to Colorado. Three years ago. Nothing was visible from the outside of the camera and the internet gurus were convinced it was a software issue. Not so. I ordered the OEM part from the same supplier suggested by another commenter. Followed your lead and two hours later the back up camera was functioning perfectly. I skipped taking out the tail lights and I wish I hadn’t. As I was wiggling the cover off it rubbed slightly on the edges of the lens and created some tiny chips. No biggy, but if you want to avoid the chips make sure to remove the lights. Thanks again!

Thank you thank you thank you. i was not looking forward to this job but your video and some of the comments were very helpful in making this pretty straight forward. Like others have mentioned, there are two rubber grommets, each on the very end of the tailgate piece that has to come off, they are hidden behind some molding, take those off with a flat head screw driver and the piece comes off very easily after that.

Awesome write up, saved a lot of time. Once you have all the nuts off of the posts, the trim piece has black clips on each side that are hidden under the gasket that runs along each side of the tailgate that you can remove with a clip pry tool. The white clip you point to at the 19 minute mark, I stuck a 5/16 socket on it to compress the tabs and the whole thing just came loose. Thank you for this video.

Great step by step, saved me a lot of time troubleshooting how the tailgate comes apart... I didn't replace my camera, but ended up disassembling the lens and was able to clean the fog/crystallization that happened in there. Just a slight warning though, make sure you pay attention to what way the lenses go in, I had to take the camera apart 3 times before I got the right orientation on the two internal lenses. There didn't appear to be any water ingress on the electronic side at all, it seemed the o-ring on the lens side must have leaked. I'll be more careful with the pressure washer from now on...

Well done man! I did follow same procesure on my GC. I just want to reccomend to clean camera connectors with spray cleaners before to re-connect the camera and fix the cable properly because by opening and closing rear door you will start soon experiencing distortion on the screen and you will become crazy and spend a lot of money before to understand what the problem is. Rear camera is known to be an issue on this model.
@DenimNeverNude3 жыл бұрын
Good advice. I haven't had any connection issues thus far, but I could see that dirt inside the harness connector would be very difficult to diagnose.

@@DenimNeverNudeI had that problem after replacing my camera. I thought it was damaged (see at this link what was the problem kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIrLgHiFnbqlY6c). After that I replaced with a brand new comera I did realise that the problem was still there. Then I did try to clean the connector with electric spray cleaner and fix cable with ties and I finally solved. After one year it is still working fine.

@Dunno513 Жыл бұрын
I found it easier to slide the tool. It popped them off as it approached each clip. Oh yeah… plate light out…. Yup, same procedure! Oh, and the two plastic clips and the one white assembly clip were a treat. I just snipped the white clip by the latch. You don’t need to remove the red safety clip, just slide it out and push in on the button underneath it
@artvandelay40684 жыл бұрын
Nice video - clear and concise. It let me know how much of a job I'll be getting into. I have a 2011 GC and get a black (not blue) screen when backing up. Other forums show the large connector clip from the camera is the problem and soldering the wires will correct the issue. I know you mentioned you had a foggy (condensation) picture in your camera so you probably had to change the camera due to water intrusion. Good job.

I made the mistake of buying an aftermarket replacement camera which was only maybe 20% cheaper than an OEM Mopar one. It was very pixelated (I.e. lower resolution). Then I had to order a true Mopar one and go through the whole installation process again. Don't make this mistake! The aftermarket ones for a little less money are not worth the savings. There is a reason why they don't advertise their camera's resolution specs. Unfortunately either does Mopar, so you have nothing to compare it to even if they did.

Good video but there is one step not mentioned, there is a plastic rivet at each end of the panel. The side rubber molding has to be gently moved to access the head of the rivet. Use a screwdriver to pry the rivet out. The panel comes off fairly easy afterwards.

If you're just looking to replace an existing camera like I did, the part # for just the camera is 68375333AA. I ordered mine from moparwholesaleparts.com and the part looks authentic and works exactly like it should.

My 15 BU camera never got water in to it, but the video quality has gone drastically downhill in recent months here in 2021. Many of these cheap Chinese aftermarket cameras are much higher resolution and better in low light that that original camera. Think I will see if one can be sliced in. They aren't that complicated of an item. BTW, that back door when open is at just the right height to be extremely uncomfortable to work on, and I'm 6'2"/
