Thank you for this video, it helped me to think of the clip around the boot as a keyring. 👍

Your videos are great ! as I consider the purchase of an H1, which I will likely put alot of miles on I really appreciate all your insights. You deepen my appreciation of how well these machines are engineered.

Yeah once you dig into them you can really appreciate how simple things are to work on.

Could you please comment on having swapped out Torsen's for ARB Lockers? Any thoughts on why the military chose torsen and their disadvantages? Your thoughts on Brake Throttle Modulation? Thx so much. Joe from Ontario Canada.
@LSXHumvee6 жыл бұрын
Torsens are a great option for on-road and off-road capabilities but as why most things are chosen by the military it was the cheapest option and also the most mechanical (more reliable over time). Brake throttle modulation always worked well when the truck was in 4-low and with a 37" tire there wasn't much of a problem with it. Going to a 42" tire and more power I didn't feel comfortable with working the brake and the gas. The likely hood of breaking a half shaft goes up substantially.

Much appreciated... keep up the great videos... btw.. in your vid about eliminating air in the power steering system you mentionned pumping the brakes as part of the process.. another youtuber noted the plumbing between the hyd brakes and hyd steering.. what's up with that? thx in advance.

You should do video on double wrenching. For those who don,t have short sockets.

Good video. With the boot off you can clean the zerk fitting and pump some grease in it before you put the new boot on, and it’ll flush any dirt/water out, wipe it off, put new boot on, then regrease it :)

Nah it needs to be replaced.

For those who don't know that tool is called on the 4:30 video time stamp.They are called crows foot. For torque renches.

You are an amazing teacher. Would you consider an interview in Alpharetta sometime? I would love to ask 20 questions over pizza and beer (if you partake). My kids would love to see your Humvee and I would love some insight into owning a Humvee. I'll pay for the tank of gas if you bring it over. Thanks for your videos, Andy

65/73 ftlbs could be different as some versions have different sizes nuts on top and bottom. I know mine has 5/16 top and 7/16 bottom - some use both 7/16 and some use 3/8 too.... This is just a guess. But if both top and bottom are the same size, most likely, they will use the same torque specs

What is the part number of that ball joint, if you don’t mind me asking, thank you
@kaycebranson6 жыл бұрын
also just as a makes since to me guess, the leverage u added to your torque wrench throws its calibration off. Probably a good bit
@LSXHumvee6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what part of the video you're referring to. I tried to keep the socket at a 45 degree angle so as to not add torque but who knows.

Are the boots the same size for both types of ball joints?
@CIAG4PNP4 жыл бұрын
Better to just replace the whole ball joint because you already have them off. And with new ball joints you won't have to worry about them for awhile 😏

dont have to have a fork. Just wack the shit out of the upper portal close to where it mounts. The hard vibrations will separate it.. They just fall. Same way for steering ball joins. I have a fork but my way is quicker and dosent damage the boots.
@LSXHumvee6 жыл бұрын
I'll try that next time. I did that on all my old Chevy knuckles but last time I tried on the Humvee it wouldn't drop. I'll try it again next time.

Question so the half shaft can remain mounted all a guy has to focus on is having a floor jack under the A frame in order to not throw the coil springs out of the mounting brackets??
@LSXHumvee Жыл бұрын
No, you'll have to remove the half shaft because the portal has to swing out of the way. If you don't remove the half shaft the portal won't be able to move out of the way.
