Do you lock the cams for that tensioner as-well as other two tensioners? Thank you

+RAMYBES SKVERAS everyone says you “should”, but I actually see no reason to lock them for any of the tensioners after learning more about them.

@@HelpMeDIY Hi! if you wonder how did it go, I replaced bank 2 tensioner without locking cams, all good nothing bad happened. Just checked and spun engine by hand before starting the engine to make sure its spinning 👌👍

I punched out the 14mm bit from the socket and used a flex gear wrench, I could not get the tensioner started using just a screwdriver. Found it easier to use the angled tip of a 3 ft pry bar, pushing straight down on the hex bit, with the handel resting against the back of the seat, I did not have to loosen the AC compressor. Love your videos.

I'm considering a 986 as a daily driver.... This channel is very helpful, and I can actually somewhat customize my car, without the risk of completely messing it up.

I just completed replacement of the bank 2 tensioner my 98 Boxster. After starting the fight as outlined in this video, I discovered that I could fit a 3/8 wobble extension from above making the process much simpler. I had to place the socket over the old tensioner and reach down with the wobble extension to complete the connection before loosening. Similarly, when tightening the new tensioner, I placed the hex bit into the inserted tensioner and reached down with the wobble extension to complete the connection. Before starting, I loosened off the A/C compressor bolts (but did not remove them) to improve the clearance. Remember to lock TDC and to lock the bank 2 cam. The green cylinder plugs for the bank 2 cam face the rear of the car on the left side of the vehicle. I was able to obtain the shorter cam locking tool for 5-chain motors from 9products of Finland.

What were the symptoms for changing this tensionner?
@HelpMeDIY2 жыл бұрын
+john doe we had to remove it to do another job. He changed it originally because his cam deviations were way off but it didn’t help. It did help the chain rattle.

So the top tensioner does the trick? In other words, did you need to replace the chian guide rail if you did the top tensioner first?

Arron ? “ITS ALL ABOUT THE TOOL YOU USE “. The tensioner can be taken out with a regular “L” shaped Allen wrench. Then you put a boxed end wrench on the Allen wrench for a bit of leverage to break it lose. And from there it can be put back on (torqued ) the same way. 59 lbs can be done by hand close enough. Torque spec aren’t that important on that part. Lol. A good mechanic knows when and where torque specs are bs. Lol All without taking lose the compressor TA-DA 💁♂️ And they are a gear wrench set that has a short Allen & torx attachment using a boxed in wrench type of wrench that comes in the set. That’s another way

@@HelpMeDIY I bought a set of the torx & Allen head They Slide Over the socket with some preparatory teeth to have a low profile. The ratchet cones with the set. Up to a 15 mm I believe. .
