Same thing happened to my stans hub. I also ordered the Amazon hub as a replacement. It lasted a season be4 it failed aswell. I now run a FUNN Phantom hub and love it

And this is why the star ratchet is better IMHO. It may only have 54 points of engagement but that’s ALL 54 teeth engaging at once!

I run a 60t fovno star ratchet, pretty reliable I recently switched the one on my trail bike after two years it was a bit rounded but still going...

At 30$ a pop it's not even worth waiting for them to fail 😊

That is crazy... I've ridden a 1995 Trek 970 over 10K miles on fully loaded bike tours through AK, Nepal, India, and the continental US. Never had an issue with hubs, bottom bracket, freehub, or anything else really, just brake pads mostly and lots of cleaning.

@@KenLewieKungFewieSiegford took me by surprise too, I didn't think anything about the noise when it initially happened. I've been riding for a long time and this is a first.

Dunno, that wheel should spin for ages when you stop peddling. Either your pads are touching or something is causing resistance.
@VisionMTBАй бұрын
@@dd776 yeah it's a of bit of both I think
@newttella1043Ай бұрын
Stans hubs are fragile. The pocket the pawls sit in wears out. The play in the pawls cause it to not engage/skip. The Stans HG hub also gets chewed up by the cogs
@VisionMTBАй бұрын
@@newttella1043 yeah it's crazy. I'm surprised at this point it didn't happen sooner

It fits and works, but it does not seem to spin very well. On a mountain bike, does that make any difference?
@VisionMTBАй бұрын
@@yoondaman316 ha, yeah it probably matters less than a road bike but it could be smoother
@chrishorbatt3504Ай бұрын
So the HG style splines always get tore up that’s kind of normal but most hubs got six of those little things with springs
@VisionMTBАй бұрын
@@chrishorbatt3504 yeah the Stan's have just three pawls that apparently self destruct
@chrishorbatt3504Ай бұрын
Wow, I never seen that happen before!

Um. I was happy for you till I saw that you’re getting horrible spin times. I think you felt it when you were ratcheting the free hub before you put it back together. Something is not right.

@@TheRickysee you are correct. It was rubbing the seal on the bearing.
