Kenny, I’ve just changed my front driver side caliper in my F25 2012 BMW X3 for new. I had seen your video the day before and used your hack. I did not lose any fluid and later bled the calliper with minimum pedal pump. Many thanks from little old Ireland.

This is really great advice and believe it or not you have the only video on KZbin explaining and showing how to minimize brake fluid loss when removing a caliper! Or like in my case I have a torn outer piston seal that needs replacing so thank you from Burbank California 😄

Great information, just put new calipers on and have slight leak on the right brake banjo and caliper meet. Need new copper washers to replace new set that came with calipers. Your tip stopped the leak until fix.

If you're taking off the flexi hoses and are left with the flared end of the copper pipe, I use the little bung that comes with a new caliper that's shaped like a tiny cowboy hat - the pipe end fits really well inside the hole on the back..

You'll need to disconnect the battery otherwise the brake lights will drain it flat in no time.

@UnjustifiedRecs what, you don't know, ??? You ALWAYS nreed to disconnect the battery, other wise the the LIF (Light Illumination Fluid will drain out completely.... The blinker fluid too, it only happens rarely , but when it DOES happen, it happens quick n outta nowhere, and it is SOOOOOO flinking expensive!!! 🧑🔧🤔😊😌😁😄😆😅😂🤣

Great advice I wouldn't have thought of. Putting new Brembo calibers (upgrade) on a ABS bike. I will do as you have- install one dry caliper at a time, bleeding first before the second. Air and ABS can be a nightmare. This way may be plug and play. Thank you

I just plug the line with a little rubber bung once I crack it off the caliper. No spraying involved and it also allows me to clean and descale the compression fittings if needed.

What if i need to rebuild a caliper. Can i use this technique for let's say a week without brake fluid leaking out. Some people say to pinch off the rubber brake line. Don't really know if that will damage the line or not, especially if your are doing it for a long time. Some also say to use a cap to plug up the banjo hose fitting. Also wouldn't it be hard to remove the caliper and brake pads with the brake depressed?
@baselshishani5575 Жыл бұрын
Someone suggested using an earplug in the ring fitting.
@petratical11 ай бұрын
Dont pinch the brake line, it could be damaged. After you do the brake pedal thing, then just relieve pressure by the bleeder screw/valve. He said it my squirt some fluid, but better than losing all the brake fluid through leaking.
@petervrabcak559728 күн бұрын
How many mechanics have wondered how to do this without thinking it through like you did?

Cool. Stick a spare valve stem in the banjo bolt hole too and you've got a great combo here.

What is your opinion on squeezing the hydraulic line closed near the caliper, with vice-grip, careful not to over clamp it and damage the hose? This avoids the slight spray when removing the hose bolt and stops fluid drainage also, but one must be careful on clamping the hoses.

Nice!!! Newbie question: won’t the brakes be fully engaged ? How will I get them off if so
@EddieOklang2 ай бұрын
I replaced my calliper and just let the fluid drain so I can refill it with new fluid.
@billybobsowbreath1774Ай бұрын
Kinda what I decided too. I always replace the fluid on every brake job, so just let everything gravity drain. A bit of a pain if the MC goes empty, but you know all of the old fluid is out.
@Cobinsneed6 ай бұрын
It’s most likely where you put in the bolts that hold the calipers they might be seized up and don’t move back and forth which causes that uneven pressure on the brakes

After the brake pedal is pressed can I compress the pistons? Seems like the same thing that stops it from draining out will stop it from being pushed back up.

Does this also apply for when servicing the rear brakes?
@RotoRCol Жыл бұрын
yes any caliper
@madbull9988 Жыл бұрын
Why would you just replace everything and not diagnose the actual problem. On the stiking caliper simply crack the bleeder or unscrew the hose and see if it's still sticking. If it is, it's the caliper, if not it's the hose or could even be a problem further up the line like the ABS modual.

@israelmena77526 ай бұрын
You shouldn't pinch the brake line. It'll cause a weak point and it'll eventually rupture. At least that's what happened on my Ford F 150.
@jameslastname91713 ай бұрын
@@israelmena7752 so the rubber line that is constantly expanding and contracting when you press the brake pedal decided to break when you pinched it as every service manual instructs? What did you pinch it with? Razors?
@jameslastname91713 ай бұрын
Pinching it would be the normal way that service manual instruct. Pressing on the brake pedal works as this video suggests. Added bonus, you don’t drain brake fluid but you can drain the battery instead as the brake lights come on

I have a hard time to return a rear brake piston into calliper even I have previously open a bleeder to let a pressure off/out .the piston and caliper are in perfect condition.very good quality calipers holding excellent in salt belt area.2011 sienna. could of been due to the new inner seal I installed or you have to use clamp sometimes to push it in ?.
