For those having this problem, another thing to check.......I had the same problem and would not get codes, I had changed mine more than once, both cam and crank sensor........that circuit is connected to a lot of things Cam, Crank, TPS, MAF, Injectors, SKIM, all are on it, what happens often and is hard to diagnose is the loom that runs on that harness between the firewall and the valve cover wears away, there is then a stud on the back that rubs against the harness causing it to arc and can give the same symptom and even codes that those sensors are bad when they are not. Even if you are not having problems I would highly suggest wrapping a new high temp loom around that harness running behind the valve cover and also putting something over the stud to prevent arcing. The problem that I was having that was caused by this was stalling in reverse, especially 4lo, random crank no starts, and running low RPM at idle once warm. So if you are changing sensors, go ahead and check that while you are at it cause it's a fairly common problem that goes undiagnosed and can be hard to chase down.
@kylepriestley61882 жыл бұрын
also if that loom has worn away and is arcing, it can cause your sensors to also fail prematurely, so again, check it, simple fix that will save you a lot of headaches that I went through for months chasing that gremlin.
@NajarOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Thanks that’s good to know! I used at matco scanner that checked everything on the Jeep and for me it should the cam shaft sensor wasn’t sending signals to the pcm at times but I’ll still go ahead and check the loom to incase
@kylepriestley61882 жыл бұрын
@@NajarOffroad oh for sure, and to be clear I would say in most cases it probably is just the sensor itself, but might as well check and easy thing that I overlooked multiple times before I figured it out, save the headache that I put myself through. Great video, a lot of the other ones that talk about the cam don’t explain that you don’t have to do the synchronizer most of the time too.

Good video man, but also so everybody knows, the camshaft position sensor from Mopar has been discontinued for awhile. I've been trying for awhile to find an OEM one, my 02 WJ only has 45,000 original miles. So what I did was take off the OEM one and replaced it with NAPA brand Echlin and save the original and if the aftermarket fails I have a good low mile OEM one.
@NajarOffroad2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know they were discontinued yea that’s good to save the original!

I read somewhere that NTK made a lot of the OEM parts. Going to change the cam and crank sensors today, wish me luck!

@mondomikeg4921 Good luck for sure. I just changed my Crank position sensor to an OEM Mopar one and the camshaft position sensor I changed is an Echlin brand from Napa. And has worked great so far.

I've seen in a couple of your sensor videos that you've used the Standard brand. Make sure you get the part that DOESN'T end in "T" - those that end with T are part of their economy line.

What brand of scan tool does your friend have. My Jeep has a hard start. I have replaced the Cam shaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, switch over to the viper coil set up, replaced fuel pump and the fuel filter/regulator. I am now at a total loss of what it could be. Any help or ideas on how to fix this. 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 in it. Help…

I am trying this today. Off to O'Reilly later. Wish me luck! The code came up and I was able to limp home, but it was very sketchy... Bt the way, your WJ can give you codes without a scanner, if you turn the ignition switch 3 times (without starting). It will cycle once through whatever code it finds and announce 'done' when it's over.
