Replacing Center Console Climate Control T4 Bulbs with Retrofit T3 LEDs (Scion tC2 / tC2.5)

So the part numbers for the knobs on a 2013, from left to right: Control Sub Assembly 55901-21040, 55902-21120, 55903-21030 On the parts diagram it's labeled as: 55901D (knob) 55901A (bulb) 55902E (knob) 55902G (bulb) 55903A (knob) 55903B (bulb) It also has asterisks that say 'Lighting and indicator lamp are included as a component' The listing on Toyota autoparts store is "Control Sub-Assy, Heater, No.3" - 55903-21010 For some reason, searching for the part number has very little results, and unfortunately is also a part number for a mower carburetor. That said, after a little more sleuthing, those part numbers lead me to the actual part listing numbers. 55901A = 90010-01145 55902G = 90010-01145 55903B = 90010-01165 😎 Recently purchased cargo mat from bamwholesaleparts and they have the most reasonable shipping. For these 3 bulbs it's about $26 shipped.

@@VampyreX13 Np, hope it helps someone. Hey, do you know if you can adjust or replace the windshield wiper nozzles? Mine are dumb, they just spray the cowel, and they don't seem to have any way of adjusting. And is there any way to shorten the clutch throw? Feel like the only way I can drive this is if I'm slamming gears.

Just used your how to to do this in my own 2016 TC. Replaced all 3 with LEDs (2 red, one white) and used the bases from the OEM bulbs to attach the LEDs to. Worked perfectly and took about an hour from start to finish. Thanks!!

I owe you a couple beers (edit... or a coffee). Great video. Can't believe they used non-LEDs back there and made them so hard to get to. Think the orange sleeve could fit/stay on an LED? I'd rather not have to buy 20 different LEDs to get the right colors haha. Might end up just using stock style bulbs. If I buy something non-OEM/cheap that works, I'll share a link.

@@7493prado Toyota 90010-01165 is the white light (black base), Toyota 90010-01145 is the red base with white bulb + red boot. As I mentioned, you should be able to buy either of the two part numbers, they're the same shape/fit and just add or remove the red boot as required to get the right color light as mentioned in the video.

I don't have any videos for the footwells, but I basically took Oznium LEDs (amzn.to/3SDocsk) and added connectors to them (amzn.to/3I4QLda). I have a central wire harness for all my interior lights that I connected them all to and I ziptied them into place.

As I recall, two of them have orange sleeves while the last one doesn't.

Hey Derrick, if you have time I think you should do a tutorial on how to replace the leds on the gauge cluster. I just did it last night and it looks amazing, but there is so little information. I only found 2 forums. One on Scion life. But both forums had a link to a website that was no longer alive but I was able to find the pdf from the website. If you have any prior soldering experience then it will be easy. I’ve never soldered before and it took me maybe 3 hours.

Can you do a video installing a TRD (red) push start button? I wonder if the buttons are tied to the remote key fob. The 2012 Yellow RS have it OEM from Scion.

Not unless one of my fellow gen 2 friends are planning this for themselves (I'll ask). Since I already have a push to start on my 2016, I just installed a red aluminum cover instead. If you do install it though, I believe you just need to have a smart key fob and then have that re-programmed to match the new push to start ignition box.

Quick question... I installed new bulbs (T4.2), and it illuminates only for the buttons you can push in per knob. But the entire knob does not illuminate, could it be a bad fuse?

Did you try flipping the LEDs around in case you have a polarity reversed? If you already did that, can you confirm it's making contact to the board? Last, did you try putting in one of the original incandescent bulbs to make sure the circuit is still working?

I have tried switching them 180, but I have not made sure it was contacting enough. I will give it a try again in an hr and see if it works. Thanks! Keep up the great vids man

So after testing oem bulbs (2/3), they are working. As well as all the new LED lights. I positioned both the OEM bulbs and new LEDs back in (both 180 degrees) and not a single bulb worked. Im guessing all the circuits went out on all 3 :( .... so I will just purchase all three AC knobs and hopefully that resolves the issue. I also checked all the fuses which were good to go still.

A single surface mount 5050 LED from oznium.com.

So the T3 Led is the one to buy for it to fit properly right ??

T4 is the actual correct size, but there are slight variances on T4 LED and base diameter sizes that you may get one that's just too big like I did. That's why it was easier to just get a smaller T3 bulb and retrofit the LED into the existing OEM bulb socket. If you do find a direct swap T4 LED bulb, let me know and I will post a link to it in the video description below.

You need to put a white LED behind that knob. I had the same problem and noted that in my video.

If remove the console and then manually rotate the controls that plug into the back of the knob, does that operate the ducts? Or is your actual knob broken somehow?

Sorta. It doesn't have the nice full range of incandescent bulbs, but it can dim little.
