Great job! Only thing I would have done different is wire brushed and spray painted frame rails to keep DOT from examining further. Hope this fixes it for you. I'm retired now after 35 years OTR and really enjoy riding along and reliving my travels. I enjoyed going to the caves in Missouri, pretty tight docks. #KeepOnTruckin

This very well might be what has been causing that issue. I had thought about when you painted the floor, thought to myself "what if something in the seat bracket was not all the way as it should and that was causing you to feel that instability you talked about. But I'm sure the seat install after the new floor install wasn't the issue, but it did cross my mind. Anyways Bro much respect always. You definitely represent many of us who've made a long career out of this thing we call #trucking

Hey Bandit, Nice video, Glad the 5th wheel plate with reefer trailer sure fits better. Something was messed up with other 5th wheel plate or jaws not locking down right. I hope your right. Having a slider is a great asset for shifting weight on or off the drive. If other trailers did'nt change your ride you may have found the problem. Good luck Bandit. Bandit, just another note, when whoever does the alignment, make sure rear axles are checked for distance from front axle center to centre of rears and that rear axles are equal distance from frame and at right angles to center line.

I’m up here in Michigan right now doing some work on the truck. Replacing rear, spring bushings and doing sixth alignment this year. I will definitely tell them about that.

You done great work. The slack looks excessive. I took my fifth wheel off of my peterbilt truck last year. I took it off at the frame and cleaned at the truck frame and the fifth wheel where the fifth wheel connects to the frame. Then I put all new bolts lock washers and nuts. I used all grade eight nuts bolts and lock washers. I just wanted to make sure that no rust was forming on the frame or fifth wheel area that touches the frame.

you should probably install a bolt in the fender bracket hole, you can get a ticket for that, I looked up the DOT regulations myself when I had my fifth wheel installed that was little custom.and 10 bolts is required.

Just knock those pivot pins out and replace the bushing on both sides; done it many times. Your 5th wheel is fine.

New subscriber. Love your videos. Hope you didn’t f**k up going to a fixed fifth wheel. Might have been the bushings on the pivot but don’t think the slider is your issue. I have had plates rebuilt and replaced whole units before because I couldn’t adjust the slack out anymore. Lack of grease on plate makes them drive funny. Wishing the best for you.

I’m having stability issues with my truck. It wonders in lane while I’m driving. I’ve thrown a lot of parts and money added, but it’s still doing it. @@OTRBandit I feel your pain trying to chase a problem. I have a Freightliner that I put 2 new steering gears on, new torsion bars, new shocks Alignments etc.. I had put new drive tires after the I replaced the original steering box and they were open shoulder really deep tread Goodyears can’t remember the number but same as the tread pattern as the Yokohamas that they replaced. Figured out that my drives was walking in the wheel grooves of the road. After they got wore down some the problem went away. Make sure you keep your fifth wheel plate lubed good also that can make them drive funny. I’m sure you already knew that. Oh by the way I watched the video today of you replacing your tie rods and if you would of whacked the end of the arm that the tie rods bolt to and put a pry bar prying down they usually pop right out. Hope you find the problem. Good luck and stay safe so you can keep the videos coming. I found your channel this past weekend and binge watched them all weekend and when ever I get a chance to.

Put aluminum fifth wheel on with new bushings and leave the slider on and you’ll have no problem. It’s probably in your alignment not the fifth wheel.

I’ve done five alignments so far this year, buddy on the truck and two alignments on the trailer. I wish it was alignment.

Are your steer tires wearing evenly is your student wheel straight does Paul to inside? Do you have to remember the center lane at a three lanes is the flattest and the left and right curved down slope to the left in the fast lane slope to the right and slow lane so truck will drift off the wheel and she goes straight.

Quite possible there may not be a "real" problem, from wear... All trucks ride different depending on the build. Could have a lowly shitbox that rides and handles perfect, then go to a sharp largecar that rides and handles like a turd... Sometimes there may not be something "wrong". Can get pricy to replace things that don't need replacing. I will say that old 5th wheel setup did have a good bit of wear, but I don't see that giving a poor handling issue if plate was greased, especially when you had a load on it. Be prepared to accept it might just be the way that truck rides if all components are within specs. I have driven some fancy big trucks that did not ride or "feel" as good as a fleet Mack or dare I say a 13 letter shit spreader International... Stay strong!

Unfortunately, this fifth wheel did not fix my problem. I know exactly what do you were saying about some trucks riding crappy. But this truck just started riding crappy this year. Before it was like Cadillac.

Stuff like a handling or ride issue can be tough to get a mech or a shop to "take the time" to hear your issue, or take time needed to road test till they feel what you feel... Time is $$. yeah thats the part of bein owner op i dont miss working on them i remember time i took radiator out of 82 cab over freight liner took a oil dipstick put vice grip on it n tap tap tap 300 tubes 3 times each rod it out clean n put it bac in next morning oh boy i was over that job yeah u get ur heaviest load set on that fifth wheel u hardly have to move it with them 53 ft trailerers single them front 2 pallets in the front can allwayscontroll fuel weight

bad move driver, i've drove a number of trucks in my50 year career and have never seen a fixed 5th wheel

I still have my sliding fifth wheel that I can always put back if I have to. I’ve hauled all kinds of different loads, and I have never had to slide this thing before.

I’ve been driving for only 14 years and I’ve seen hundreds of fixed 5th wheels on trucks. Most of them On owner operator trucks
