@ 2:46 Likely the old one was swollen from years of being exposed to gasoline. There are at least two different rubber seats, but I think he was right in his application. Bottom line is that the fuel shuts off like it is supposed to do. No black smoke, no missing or dying at high RPMs.

Hello my name is Mickey I enjoyed your video on Lawnmowers. I've got a question for you if you don't mind. I'm starting to fool around with push mower's that I pickup and don't know the ins and outs about how to determine what parts I need for the different ones. Like on the carburetor parts and the bowls. Such as seats,gaskets, needles and so on. How do I find out this information and where the cheapest place to buy these parts in small bulk ?

On a kohler ks540-3011 engine 18hp, the carb needle hangs in a plastic float a drops into a plastic plate that separates the float bowl and the main body. It does not appear to have a seat in the plastic hole that the needle drops into causing the float not to sit level! The kit I got had a needle but no seat! What am I missing? Thank you!

First off great channel! I'm having an issue with the lawnmower getting flooded and the fuel has been sitting over winter so I'm thinking maybe bad float or needle/seat...it runs on and off but seems to be running a little too fuel rich and then when it sits it floods too

Just about all B&S engines up to 20 hours will take the same pin and float part number kit. I would do the float at the same time. Iintake manifold gasket and bowl seal. I use Jack's Small Engine out of Maryland. To be sure your getting the engine model and type. This should be entered with a hyphen between the two numbers when searching.
@macknumber96 жыл бұрын
Upon further inspection the needle valve was rounded so I replaced that and the gasket needed to be replaced as well...no more flooding and mower is running better than ever....the carburetor that I was dealing with had a built in seat...nikki carb with a plastic body that had built in seat for the needle valve...
@netdoctor16 жыл бұрын
Supposedly the alcohol in the fuel is rough on the rubber and plastic parts. Might have contributed to the decay of the rubber tip on the float needle, or the needle seat.

Thanks for the wisdom, here I am for the last 2 weeks breaking my head with the carb that is flooding into the case. I am about to put a shut off valve on there, but that is not my style. Then you tell me about needle seats. changed needle 2 or 3 months ago and start flooding. Seat must have disintegrated and the store I bought needle from didn't tell me about seat. Here I am cleaning polishing honing carb body thinking angle cut into that. NO luck. I even ben the tab on the float still no luck. Now some wisdom for you. Your method of checking the carb no good. This same carb doesn't blow air through, but leaks. The correct way to check is by sucking on the inlet valve with the float upside down. Move your tongue on the tube while applying vacuum, if it holds you have a good seal, if not something no good.

On a 90's model Tecumseh 3.5hp with a metal float. My mower runs fine unless it is tipped down to one side while mowing. It wants to die. Too much gas? Float problem. I shook the float no sound of gas in it. It floats in a cup of gas but not level. Side where the needle is attached sinks lower on that side. Any idea. I did a thorough clean and new parts of needle, seat and bowl gasket. Float was level and upside down it didn't allow air to pass the needle-seat? Thanks in advance.

If the needle has a rubber tip then the seat is brass usually and can be polished with a Qtip in a drill using polish or rubbing compound. Clean and blow out afterwards.

@fnaguitarplayer96 жыл бұрын
Some do and some don't, but you may be able to put the rubber seat in and it should seal fine. Just depends on the carb. Thanks for Watching!!!
@netdoctor16 жыл бұрын
Hello James. If it's a brass seat, it probably comes out and can be replaced. Search YT for plenty of vids to show you how to do it.
@netdoctor16 жыл бұрын
Hello Greg. But you must be careful not to remove too much metal at the bottom of the seat. Any metal removed actually changes the effective length of the needle. It conceivably could reach a point where the fuel won't shut off anymore, effectively flooding out the carb.
@Sean-Aviation6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. does the small pin in the needle valve suppose to pass the air and stop when compressed or is it the entire needle valve that lifts up of the bush to allow fuel to run in? My needle valve (new) doesn't allow air flow unless i use an air compressor which blows up the whole valve and let the air flow. Also, I have a metal hinge that binds the valve with the float but Im not sure it is suppose to have a tight fit so when the float moves it immediately lifts up the entire valve and open the air passage?
@fnaguitarplayer96 жыл бұрын
Your welcome! The float will pull it open when it drops down, you should be able to blow through it, without compressed air. Thanks for Watching!

When together with the plastic carb float up the float is not level it hangs down a bit. any input appreciated. Thanks
@fnaguitarplayer96 жыл бұрын
Alot of times the plastic floats will kind of warp or stretch and you may not be able to see it, and they need to be replaced, since they are not adjustable like the old metal ones were. Unless you can find a slightly longer needle valve that might bring it up, as long as it hooks to the float and seals off it should be fine. Thanks for Watching!!!

Is it possible to have a bad float pin causing the float to not hinge up correctly and get stuck under the gas instead of floating on top?

What would happen if u didn't put the bump on the bottom of the bowl on the opposite side wouldn't run leaving like does it hold extra fuel or something
@fnaguitarplayer97 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't really affect anything on this type, the main time it might matter is the type of bowl that is shaped like the float, where the float would actually sink down into the bowl, as far as the little bump it probably doesn't really matter on this type of carburetor. But I always set them like that, it just "feels" right to me haha. Thanks for Watching!!!

Check it for spark when it quits running, sounds like possibly a bad coil and its loosing spark. It could be carburetor related, but check it for spark first and see what you got. If its not loosing spark, then i would suggest cleaning/rebuilding the carburetor, if that is a opposed twin, then the fuel pump part of the carb may need rebuilt as well. Thanks for Watching!!!

Hey Stephen. Are you getting any black smoke out the exhaust while it's running? That might indicate that it's running rich. If that's the case, your float valve might not be closing when it should be.
