Trying to figure out why I need an air filter in my fridge. 52 years old and never had one before my current model.

Not required, new feature, does similar thing like baking soda to reduce cross flavors. Don't have to even have one, its if you want that or not.

"Popping" the indicator bubble is a poor choice of words. I would say smash or deflate. If you actually "pop" it, some red liquid oozes out.
