Def no expert here; hence why I’m looking at great videos like this to try and figure it out to see if I can do it… that said; looking at and wondering… when it comes to putting it back together, wouldn’t work if you put on the caps of the middle part first and then press in the sides normally? Meaning instead of having to try and find the “sweet spot” to angle in the top cap? Really not throwing shade here… whatever works , works, but wondering if that would avoid the chance of messing up the needle bearings while going in at an angle… thanks for any input… pretty sure I can try the project based on this video alone… thanks for taking the time to do it! The job is hard enough as is; and making the video at the same time adds that much more work!! 👍👍

@@JustFun-tk4dt Thanks for watching and the feedback on the videos. Cruise through the comments. A few folks have suggested different ways to put that center yoke together that might be easier and I certainly can’t say they, or you, are wrong. I think no matter what there will be some amount of struggle. But you’re right, finding the best approach that minimizes chance of messing up caps and bearings is important. Good luck with it and come back to comment on how it went so others can get your tips too!

Is it required to remove the skid plate? Great video btw...
@CarbonsDIYGarage7 ай бұрын
Required? I don't think so - I'm pretty sure there are videos out there showing people doing it with the t-case on. However there's a lot of awkward hand positioning and it'll take a bit longer (and more frustration) since you'll have to reach back to the back of the driveshaft from the front. It'll probably be harder to get it back on and torqued properly. If you can get the skid plate down semi-easily, I'd recommend it. But is it required - no. Worst case, try it with the skid plate up and see how it goes. Hope that helps and good luck. Thanks for watching, Tony.

Was the original centering yoke that came out of it the greasable version? I've been told that the greasable and non greasable centering yokes are not interchangeable.
@CarbonsDIYGarage10 ай бұрын
The one I pulled out of my '97 TJ, which I'm pretty certain was original, was non-greasable and that's what I used for the new part (linked in video description). When I was researching doing this, I didn't come across any horror stories about using greasable ones but there were plenty talking about how much of a pain it is to get installed just right so they're actually serviceable and don't bind up. It seemed to me to be way to much work and effort for my needs. I never intended to take TDRS off road constantly or abuse those joints. If anything, I'd probably forget to grease them and the joints would fail early. Going with the original config was what I decided to do and it worked great. Thanks for watching.

13:20 so I actually had no issue doing the u-joint with the centering yolk (by luck as much as anything, I'm sure) One key thing: I left the caps on the two bearings that were going into the centering yolk, I only removed the caps that were going in the u-joint cardon. With just those caps off, you get some wiggle room while seating the joint into the centering yolk cradle with the caps on I just pressed the centering yolk down first (you should see some red grease shoot out a tiny hole in the back of the yolk where it faces the u-joint). As I pressed the caps into the cardon, it had the effect of centering both of those spindles. Sorry I know that's a little difficult to visualize with words, but I hope that helps someone

How long do you think this rubber slinger seal would last and also by seeing it I don't think it stops water. Plz tell Regards
@CarbonsDIYGarage2 ай бұрын
@@maverickforever Great question! The only answer I know is “not 25 years.” 😁 Seems like something that should somehow be inspected regularly but I don’t know how you could without a borescope. Maybe if you remove it from the Jeep and in some good lighting you can flex it enough to see if it’s come apart?

Well, another great video Ed! Glad you keep making TDSR better! Labor of love lol. Hey, when you have time, check out my u-joint video kzbin.info/www/bejne/anqXfptsm7NmqpY. The part at the end you had the fight with was buttery smooth on mine. I took a different approach getting that last joint in. It begins at min 7 : 15. I know you are already finished but would like to know your thoughts. Keep up the great work!

Steve! KZbin never told me about your comment and I just happened to see it today. I believe you’ve replaced that front driveshaft now but how well did that self-balance setup last? Man, I’m sure I watched your video before I did my front u-joints but I sure wish I’d have paid closer attention. Your method on that yoke is WAY easier than mine.
@ForceBuilt2 жыл бұрын
@@CarbonsDIYGarage The balanced driveshaft I did actually worked great. I drove it many thousand miles. Mine was terrible before I balanced it. I don't really know if it was worth the small amount of improvement to replace it with the new one. It is a little smoother and looks pretty lol.
