I've got a 2004 grand cherokee 4.7. When i pulled the spare tire out, there was water in the tire compartment. I was under the impression that mine had a access door to get to the pump without dropping the tank. May cut a access slot out to get to the pump.
@WATCHMEWRENCH4 жыл бұрын
Please don't do that, that is very dangerous. If you use a pair of shears maybe but don't use power tools such as a cut off wheel because Sparks and Gas = BOOM.
@jenf1387 Жыл бұрын
I'm a little jealous of your lift. I cut the access hole in the spare tire compartment, partially because I'm lazy but also because I live in Massachusetts and with the amount of rot getting that skid plate off without snapping bolts would be a coin toss. The key to cutting the access hole is to drill first through the side then use tin snips to cut a flap so you don't damage anything. Mine is an 04 4.0L with 356k miles. I'm cheap and pulled a fuel pump out of a junkyard from a low mileage wreck. If you cut the access hold the road noise is kind of annoying so I took a real thin rubber floor mat and put it on top of the fuel pump assembly then put about a whole can of spray foam insulation in there to seal up the gap. No road noise after that.

I would advise you not to rush, maybe spray WD-40 on all bolts now and let the fliud soak in over night on any rusty bolts. Also take photos if you have to this way you can reference the photos if you forget which lines goes where. Check for cracked lines, Im sure you'll have some as I did. Hopefully you watched both part 1 and 2 of my videos.

Once again that is incredible dangerous gutting through a metal floorplan which will create sparks directly above the gas tank.

Wasn't the hitch an actual recall? Because without it it left the tank unprotected
@WATCHMEWRENCH Жыл бұрын
you may be correct, but that is an aftermarket hitch I installed. My Jeep never came with a hitch.
@DavidCasale Жыл бұрын
Yes it is a recall, as without it, if hit from behind can cause a fire or explosion.
@sethroberts71346 ай бұрын
The recall was specifically to replace after market hitches. If you had no hitch they wouldn't add one. I had an after market and they replaced it with a factory hitch.
@mcclure4405 жыл бұрын
How did you end up removing the 2 bolts at the end of the hitch (the ones you said you had trouble with)? My bolt heads just spin and no access to nuts. Thinking about cutting bolt heads off or drilling hole just above them in sheet metal. (I took my bumper off).What do you think?
