Today I show you how to hack apart a perfectly good WJ to change the fuel pump without dropping the tank. Sometimes its just not worth the effort to do things the right way.

Doing the same exact job today on our Jeep. Accidentally pierced the tank. Epoxy resin and fiberglass fixed that. Thankfully I have a bore scope. I used it to locate the pump's position. Great video.

I plan to be doing this same job in the next week. I know this vid is 3 years old but have you recovered from those snips yet? I saw you broke out grinder and don't blame you a bit.I plan to use a sheet metal nibbler. Wish me luck.

if anyone does this, simply mark the area to be cut and go around the perimeter with a step bit making holes about 1-2 inches apart then you won't have to manually cut as much.

I used a nibbler. Easy, Peasy.

Chrysler/Jeep should put an access hole there to begin with, i dont think it will weaken the unibody so why not!

lol just changed mine out in half time pulling the tank down 8 bolts and a few easy hoses

I can drop a WJ tank and reinstall in about an hour. I'll keep the forward hanger bolt attached and just remove all the other main bolts and the tank will just angle down far enough to access the pump. Just have to be cognizant of the fuel filler line and the EVAP lines.

Dunno if this was faster. Dropping the tank is 10 bolts and two additional clamps. Could have done that in the time it took to cut that hole. Not criticizing your fix, it got the job done, just don't know if it saved much time.

I dont believe in hacking a vehicle up trying to do a job ,, do it rite or hire someone who can damn, now next time i look at a used vehicle i need to inspect it to see if this dumbass has been screwing with it ,, thanks !!!

Sometimes it’s the only way. I had a RUSTED out ‘89 Ranger and taking the tank down would’ve caused way more issues so a small flap in the bed was the best choice
@ANDthe32 жыл бұрын
@@chevylvr902 way easier. And if you have a bed liner, no one's gonna know.

Two long bolts and two hinged straps,if you do it like that again get a nibbler makes quick work of that gauge steel and you can get a near perfect circle,that grinder you used around that gas tank made me cringe any fuel vapor could have sent ya to the moon
@jasoncurtis47383 жыл бұрын
Smh damn shame, if you can’t drop a gas tank then don’t work on cars.
